Background
BlackBerry Passport SQW100-1 is a smartphone with a physical keyboard released on September 24, 2014. Blackberry stopped manufacturing its phones in 2016 and discontinued service for all of its devices, including Passport SQW100-1, on January 4, 2022. In the first two days following its release, BlackBerry sold 200,000 Passport smartphones. Passport SQW100-1 is designed as an international variant, so it is compatible with GSM networks worldwide. Back in 2014, smartphones with keyboards were losing popularity, but Blackberry still decided to stick to keyboard smartphones to appease the people who still used keyboards.
When Passport SQW100-1 was sold for $500. Blackberry Passport didn’t have any widespread recalls, but there were some issues with the screen, manufacturing defects, and other software-related issues. The most common problems with BlackBerry Passport SQW100-1 were related to software glitches. The most common complaint among the customers was regarding the design. It wasn’t comfortable to hold, and people preferred a virtual keyboard over the physical one. There are several revisions of the device, at least 13 known; most notable are the different display backlight circuits and audio amplifiers. Passport SQW100-1 is the only model in the Passport family. BlackBerry had other families of devices, but all of them had the physical keyboard in common.
