Background
The Drager Narkomed 2A is an anesthesia system that was produced from 1982 through 1988. The Narkomed 2A was built off the strengths of the model 2. In the 2A, the central alarm panel was reconfigured with a digital display, an electronic respiratory monitor, and oxygen analyzer. This device was the first anesthesia machine that linked individual monitors to a central alarm display via electronic communication.
The Narkomed 2A allows for the administration of anesthetic and non-anesthetic gases to patients. If the machine is equipped with vaporizers, it is also capable of delivering anesthetic agents in the form of vapors in conjunction with these gases.
It has the the ability to monitor oxygen, breathing pressure, and respiratory volume. The ventilator allows the operator to mechanically control the patients ventilation. The operator can preset the tidal volume, inspiratory flow rate, I/E ratio and frequency. The electrically powered alarm panel contains numerous indicators to alert the operator in cases such as a disconnected breathing tube, high system pressure, oxygen supply failure and other potentially dangerous situations.
Identification
To identify the Drager Narkomed 2A, look on the top-right of the front of the device (just to the right of the N20 - Air Selector Switch and above the vaporizers). It should be labeled "Narkomed 2A." There should be a set of drawers and a table top. On the left of the Narkomed 2A there should be a CO2 Absorber. Some equipment such as the drawer set may vary from pictures.
