Background
The Drager Vitalert machine is a medical device used to track the vital signs of a patient. It is able to track the patient's electrocardiogram (or heart rate), blood pressure, temperature, oxygen levels, and breathing rate. If anything were to go wrong with the patient's vital signs, the nurse practitioners would be instantly alerted via an alarm system. In an environment that calls for constant movement, this alarm system comes in handy, as nurses depend heavily on alerts to direct their attention to the most urgent matter. In being alerted, nurses are able to make the proper decisions that will help bring the patient's vitals back to a state of equilibrium.
This device has been helping nurse practitioners for decades and is currently still in use, mainly in operating rooms and intensive care units. One reason why it is depended on is because of its ability to connect and communicate with other medical systems like other Drager devices and hospital information systems. Its ability to do so makes data-sharing between devices and departments within a hospital more fluid. Overall, in such a busy environment, this device makes it easier for patient information to be shared and utilized among necessary parties and it has been doing so for a long time.
