Background
The SL series was first launched in 2008 and ended in 2010. With the primary intent on targeting small-sized businesses.[1] The Lenovo ThinkPad SL410 was released in late 2009 offering a more affordable, yet powerful lineup of products for the targeted consumers.[2]
The starting price was originally in the upper $500's which offered smaller businesses an affordable product to buy based on their needs. At that price, some features from other product lines could be added/upgraded for additional costs than the base $500+ price.[3]
The products produced during the SL series were the: SL300 which had a 13.3" display, the SL400 and SL410 with a 14" display, and the SL500 and SL510 with a 15.6" display.[3]
The SL410 was the first product in the SL series to use DDR3 capabilities as well as have Windows 7 pre-loaded as their newest Operating System. However, the SL410 was a part of a battery recall in 2010-2012 due to its Lithium-Ion battery potentially overheating or catching on fire.[4]
Identification
There were two products in the line with 14" displays: the SL400 and the SL410. The SL400 was released in 2008 and the SL410 was released in 2009. The SL410 came pre-loaded with Windows 7 while SL400 had Windows Vista. Also, the SL400 could only support DDR2 while SL410 supported DDR3. The model number can be found on the bottom right of the device.
