The external storage devices in the consumer space are divided into four product lines: MyPassport, My Book, WD TV, and My Cloud. Western Digital also color codes the case of the external hard drive for various uses. The following explains the meaning of each color:
- Black: high-performance
- Blue: general desktop purpose
- Red: network-attached storage drives
- Purple: surveillance drives
- Green: eco-friendly
- Gold: data-center drives
