  1. Asus X551CA Battery Replacement, Keyboard Plate Cover: adım 1, 1 resimden 1.
    • Power off and unplug your laptop before you begin.

    • Turn the laptop upside-down and remove the following screws using a Phillips #0 driver:

    • Two 9.5 mm screws in the middle of the back edge, and one 9.5 mm screw in the right edge

    • Two 4.3 mm screws in the back corners

    • One 17.5 mm screw at the left edge near the optical drive

    • Three 4.3 mm screws in the front edge

screw assignments are definitely wrong. I swapped the red and the green, as per comment above, and kept the blue as-is.

Thanks everyone. It does seem like someone got their screws mixed up when they wrote this guide. I’ve made some changes as you all suggested, so the screw placements should be more accurate now. If anyone with this laptop could verify the screw measurements with a digital caliper, that’d also be very helpful.

    • Use the plastic opening tool to separate the keyboard plate cover from the bottom cover. In order to do this, insert the plastic opening tool in between the keyboard plate cover and the bottom cover, then slide along edges to pry open.

  3. Asus X551CA Battery Replacement: adım 3, 1 resimden 1.
    • Locate the three ribbons connecting the keyboard plate cover to the bottom cover.

    • Invert the laptop in order to gain access to the ribbons.

    • Remove each ribbon by flipping the small white plastic flap up and gently pulling on the ribbon.

Don't remove the ribbons, just move the keyboard slightly forward to remove the old battery and insert the new one (just make sure they are all connected when you put it back)

    • Now that the ribbons have been detached from the bottom cover, carefully remove the keyboard plate cover. Once it has been removed, place it in a safe and moisture free area so it does not get damaged.

Is painting your nails crucial for step 5?

    wiedzmin - Yanıt

Yes and you have to put lotion on

    joemidjette - Yanıt

Now, that is a stupid question! Of course! As I am working on 551M, I naturally have to have nails painted orange, with blue accents!

Thank you for the procedure. I never worked with ribbon connectors like that; perhaps a few words or pictures that shows connecting procedures may be helpful to others. How far in ribbon must be etc. Thanks again, good job.

Hi there! I have replaced my battery but the new one does not charge. Does anyone have any idea on how to solve it? I have tried several possible solutions found online like removing the battery (completely) turning on the CPU and then off, placed the battery and restarted. Pressing the power button for 15s or 60s and then turn on the CPU.... well.... Loosing hope here.... :( Help!

fpchaves - Yanıt

The only thing I can think of is that the new battery was faulty. It is probably way too late to return it, but you could try buying another and see if the same problem recurs with the new, new one.

Thank you, Josh. Clear instructions. The most difficult part for me was to re-connect the "ribbons", since I don't have nimble fingers. I actually used a plastic toothpick to help doing this :)

Thank you for the explanatory procedure, however my battery is a 11,1v and I find 14,4v only on the market. Do you think it will damage my pc?

stefano - Yanıt

Mine was 11.25V and I had no problem, but I have seen 14.4V used as a replacement as well without issue.

I did not have to disconnect the ribbons. I was able to scoot the keyboard away from the screen/hinge (about two inches) and pop the battery out.

Good advice! Too late for me, alas. However, as long as I had done the most difficult part (really, those tiny, delicate cables are the worst), I took the opportunity to do a full set of upgrades: replaced the HDD with a SSD, added a DVD/CD burner, upgraded the RAM from 4GB to 8GB, and now the thing is humming like new!

Re the comments about the ribbon connectors: I would go further and say DO NOT disconnect the ribbon connectors just to remove the battery. Once the keyboard assembly is separated from the chassis, turn the laptop right way up and gently move the keyboard away from the screen until the battery is fully visible. The battery can then be lifted straight up, though it will require a bit of wiggling to disengage the end with the connector.

Also, separating the keyboard assembly from the chassis along its back edge requires the lid to be closed, or nearly closed; otherwise the bottom of the screen prevents the assembly from clearing the chassis.

I would like to add my two cents on the screws: I found that the upper left screw was slightly larger than the others, so it was not 4.3mm, but something like 6mm. Of course, it could just be my model (X551MAV).
