Bose QuietComfort 25 Speaker Replacement

  1. Bose QuietComfort 25 Speaker Replacement, Speaker: adım 1, 1 resimden 1.
    • Begin repair by removing the ear cushions.

    • The cushion is held on by a few small plastic clips. Pry carefully with plastic opening tool or fingernails.

  2. Bose QuietComfort 25 Speaker Replacement: adım 2, 1 resimden 1.
    • Next, remove the soft lining behind the cushion. This is held on with adhesive and is easily removed by hand.

  3. Bose QuietComfort 25 Speaker Replacement: adım 3, 3 resimden 1. Bose QuietComfort 25 Speaker Replacement: adım 3, 3 resimden 2. Bose QuietComfort 25 Speaker Replacement: adım 3, 3 resimden 3.
    • Once the soft lining is removed from behind the ear cushion, two screws (4.80mm) will be exposed.

    • Carefully remove these screws with a precision screwdriver (PH00) and put aside.

  4. Bose QuietComfort 25 Speaker Replacement: adım 4, 1 resimden 1.
    • Flip the earphones back over and carefully pry around the outside cover of the earpiece.

    • Try a plastic opening tool before moving on to harder metal tools.

    • This cover will come loose with moderate pressure.

  5. Bose QuietComfort 25 Speaker Replacement: adım 5, 2 resimden 1. Bose QuietComfort 25 Speaker Replacement: adım 5, 2 resimden 2.
    • Once the inside of the headphone is exposed, use screw driver (PH00) to remove the two 4mm screws on the black speaker cover.

  6. Bose QuietComfort 25 Speaker Replacement: adım 6, 1 resimden 1.
    • Use a heat gun to carefully loosen the glue on the speaker cover.

Be careful when using a real heat gun! The cover is made of very thin ABS plastic that melts abruptly when it gets too hot. If that happens, the reassembly becomes a pain. The glue is around the lower rim of the cover, use a low setting and a thin nozzle to warm it up carefully.

In fact, avoid using a heat gun all together and use a blow dryer instead. Keep earpiece planted to table as you pry to avoid deforming your earpiece. Start just under either one of the screw eyelets as they are strong points in which to begin the prying. Glue back appropriately as performance and noise-cancellation are dependent on a proper seal.

  7. Bose QuietComfort 25 Speaker Replacement: adım 7, 1 resimden 1.
    • Use metal tool to break the seal of the glue and pry the cover off.

    • Be careful during this step as the speaker might still be attached to the cover.

The speaker itself is not actually attached to the cover, but the wire is. You can see it go through the cover. Before removing the black plastic cover, untuck the wire from the little pinchy bit where it is secured to gain a bit more wiggle room. I actually (after unsoldering) removed the wire from the cover entirely, widened the hole with the PH00, and threaded it back through. In that way the cover was much less irritating when soldering the wire to the new speaker.

    • Remove all soldered connections that are connecting the existing speaker to the headphone. For help with this step see this guide on How To Solder and Desolder Connections

    • The existing speaker should now be free to remove and replace.

The speaker is glued to the chassis at the bottom, it cannot simply be removed. After unsoldering, heat the rim again carefully (the black rim is part of the speaker and the glue is at the bottom) to pry the speaker out more easily.

Great guide. My speaker was loose, rattling and (the worst) vibrating like a harmonica reed when listening to music! This was perfect. Able to re-gule the speaker - like new again! So far I’ve replaced the ear pads (1 year ago) and now this repair. These QC25 headphones are so great! Worth saving them! Thanks again!

Hi, where did you get your replacement speaker from, (there are so many on eBay, I have no idea which ones are good quality)?

Also, do you recommend replacing both speakers at the same time, or is it ok to replace just the broken one?

Thanks

I repaired a headset of this type after this instruction. That went without problems. It would be a speaker defect. However, one pair cost specifically for this headset in the "Bay" only € 1.29, or a speaker just over 60 cents. I did not notice a difference in the sound quality !!! You can buy the speaker also "original" from Bose for about 22 €, but think that comes from the bay! So much for Bose!

I am having the same problem.

Do you need to apply fresh glue to reseal the speaker cover, and if so, what is the best glue to use?

Eaton Hubbard - Yanıt

I used a hot glue gun, no problems.

Howard Lince III -

Readily available in many stores or online would be E6000...An industrial strength flexible glue.

Excellent guide! Used it and replaced my faulty right speaker successfully. One suggestion: It would help to warn that after heating the speaker cover, hold the ear cup as you do in the picture, flat on the work surface and avoid picking it up while attempting to remove the cover with the tool. Doing this and grasping it while it is still warm is likely to deform the ear cup and create difficulty while trying to reassemble. I held mine up so I could see better while trying to pry off the speaker cover, and although I was being gentle so as not to break anything, my grasping the ear cup was enough to deform it so that I had difficulty replacing both the back and the ear pad. I was able to reheat and gently reshape it enough to get it snugly back together, but I could faintly see the effects of this. I should have made sure to hold it just as you did, but still a great success. Thanks!

Ps. I replaced the speaker cover without reapplying fresh glue and screwed it together. Sounds brilliant.

Cheers

dOES ANYBODY HAS THE LINK TO BUY A NEW MINISPEAKER AGW131230 FOR THAT HEADPHONES?

Thanks for this guide, I wouldn’t have been able to repair my QC25 otherwise! During reassembly, I used a bit of white removable glue pad to secure the speaker and cover in place. I found that, after screwing everything tight, things are pressed together quite snugly, so I used a lighter glue in case I need to reopen the thing.

In step 6 it’s better to use a hair dryer than a heat gun. Less risk to melt the speaker cover and works perfectly.

macabowen - Yanıt

Wow, perfect instructions and most importantly, it worked! My Bose headphones now sound better than ever from both sides. Thank you so much for the clear instructions! Regards, Greg

My experiences with following these instructions are mixed. The replaced speaker works, but the heat gun melted the plastic cover badly and I ended up cutting the thing open with a — cutter. Are there instructions on using a heat gun effectively in such circumstances?

Florian - Yanıt

The speaker needs to be glued back in !!

Allan - Yanıt

This guide is poor in several areas.

1. The speaker cover plastic will deform if you use a hot air gun - even carefully. This needs to be warmed up very slowly with a hairdryer. Then when trying to dislodge the speaker cover from the glue, you need to be very careful not to bend the warm plastic, or it will permanently deform.

The speaker is well glued in place so also requires heating. Then all the old glue will peel off, so you ABSOLUTELY MUST use glue to re-seat the speaker and speaker cover , in order to achieve a good repair.

Heating the glue is the trickiest part of this job, and if you get that wrong, you'll probably get sub-par results when re-assembled.

Feedback! I replaced using an inexpensive speaker from Ebay. Was carefull about polarity, red wire to left with contacts up as shown in this guide. Worked OK with power off, but it would make a terrible feedback tone whenever the power was turned on. To get rid of the feedback, I swapped the wires on the speaker, red on right. Then no more feedback, sounds great, noise cancellation working!

Also as others mentioned, be super careful with heat on the black plastic speaker cover, its very easy to deform if it gets too hot.
