    • Use a spudger to carefully remove the liquid electrical tape that holds the battery inside the battery compartment.

    • Be careful not to puncture the battery, or damage the battery wire underneath the liquid electrical tape.

This is NOT liquid Electrical tape! I recommend using 3M adhesive silicone. If you are doing this repair then you can find the 3m adhesive silicone at automotive stores. Liquid tape hardens and 3M adhesive remains mailable vs the rock hardening effect of liquid tape.

    • Use a spudger to lift the battery out of the device.

    • Lift the end of the battery that does not have the wire connection and remove the 16 mm PH2 screw underneath the battery.

    • Notice the wire that is connecting the battery to the device. Attempting to remove the battery completely could cause damage to the wire. Do not use a metal spudger to remove the battery, this could cause damage.

    • Remove the four 16 mm screws from the white plastic casing using the PH2 screwdriver.

The two screws on the right side (side with the USB port) are too long to extract with the iFixit screwdriver in the basic kit. I needed to use a regular thin PH2 screwdriver to get them out.

I had this problem also, whenever putting the screws back in there were still air pockets in the side with smaller screws

    • Starting in a corner of the device where the casing and the side meet, use a pointed metal spudger to pry the back casing off the speaker and the glue holding the seam together.

    • Slide the metal spudger along the seam to separate the back casing from the rest of the speaker.

Breaking apart the halves takes patience. Took 30 minutes. Mine was glued together like a tank, and it was not easy at all to separate the halves. Maybe JBL saw this post and doubled the glue to dissuade DIY fixes. Once I separated the halves, it was easy, but be prepared to get moderately frustrated in doing so. Also, don't get angry and try to force them apart, because from my experience, I do believe there is a high risk potential of cracking either halve if attempting to brute force the issue. Remember, patience is a virtue here. Lastly, you can get a good set of spudger tools at Harbor Freight Tools for cheap. They are actually called Wax Carving tools made in India of stainless steel. Excellent set to complete this fix, and I can see that they will be very useful in the future if needed. 10/10 for the author for the breakdown instructions. Cheers!

one essential moment. when you're trying to disasemble a cover there is also one bolt under the battery socket! it not shown on step 5!

freddyfresh90 - Yanıt

It is told in step 4, but not shown. I looked up this guide when I was stuck after step 5 lol

Btw I am the editor as of Saturday, 27/August/2016. Mine had 4 PH2 screws around the outside and 1 ph2 under the battery. I am not sure if that is how it always was

smooth sailing until step 6. Finally gave up and trashed it out of frustration.

Hello, I am considering opening the Charge 3's fabric covers in hope that the sound would get better (I read that some frequencies are muffled due to the water proofing).

Any thought / experience on such outcome?

Olivier

Olivier - Yanıt

Hi Olivier, I personally wouldn't do that on my device, as JBL probably picked their fabric to ensure dust protection along with quality sound. On the other hand, depending on the environment it is used in, removing the covers shouldn't necessarily ruin the device. I say go for it!

I'd be interested to know what your results were, if you decided to remove the fabric?

Hello, my JBL Charge has been having difficulty charging lately Currently it will not power up or charge. Are there any suggestions? Ie: open device, change battery, clean or repair mini USB port?

Frank Trainor - Yanıt

Any ideas here my charge 3 keeps turning on by itself and then it can't be turned off

After a while it goes off itself then boom on it is again

That start up sound on full volume at 2 am

Any suggestions other than bin it would be great thanks guys

My JBL Charge 1 had a similar issue. I was able to turn it off no problem, but it kept turning on buy itself randomly.

So I opened it up, unplugged the three power cables and plugged them back in. Also used a lens blower all over to remove any dust. Don't know if that did anything, but it's now fixed.

It takes some patience, because there's glue everywhere and the parts are tiny.

I'm no expert. It was a shot in the dark really, so I guess I just got lucky.
