    • Using a 4 mm pin punch and hammer, hammer the pin until it is dislodged from the planetary gear cover.

This should be a 5/32 inch or 4mm punch.

    Patrick Hailstone - Yanıt

For mine it is so stiff and I cant put out the pin with hammer

    Omid - Yanıt

The pin is not moving: is there any other way of removing it or completing the job without removing it?

    ollver - Yanıt

My pin is stuck too, are there any other ways?

    Nabil Baker - Yanıt

Can the pin be hammered from either side. It won’t budge

    Sally Stier - Yanıt

Just keep at it, mine didn’t budge for a while

    Robert Chauharjasingh - Yanıt

No way. I ‘ve tried for an hour and it didn’t move at all. But I ‘ve found a solution. I drilled it out. First with 2mm then with a 3mm drill. Then I could easily remove it. The replace part is a 4mm x ~22.5mm grooved pin (half-length-center-grooved; ISO 8743).

    Zwiebeljack - Yanıt

Mine was also stubborn. I laid the machine on the side and sprayed WD-40 in the pin several times. Waited 30 min and then it came out easy.

    Petter Hellevik - Yanıt

If you need to buy a pin punch set, get ones with knurled handles (crosshatching of the metal) which are much easier to hold onto. I had to try one side then the other and WD-40 to get it out. Also figure out to how to position the mixer and what lean your hand agains while holding the pin to keep it steady so you can make multiple, accurate strikes.

When re assembling, when it came to aligning everything, i found using a small pin punch to poke all the way through helped. Then i started in on hammering the pin back in.

    Linda Przybyszewski - Yanıt

Can’t get it back in when reassembling. Any ideas?

    Michael Rosman - Yanıt

Stick with it guys. You need to hit it harder than you’d think. I actually used a 1.2mm tool steel rood do more energy was transferred from hammer to the pin. Took me about 5 min of much harder hits than I thought needed but once it starts to move it comes out easy. 😄

    • Using a spudger, pry the planetary gear cover from the mixer shaft.

My spudger must have been cheap, it bent, so i wrapped a flat sided screwdriver in a rag instead.

when reassembling, the alignment can look and feel almost be correct but the shaft wont come out far enough to let you out the pin back in, i needed to take off twice and then it slid in perfectly and everything in the rotation moved much more easily

    • Using a flathead screwdriver, remove the five 28 mm front motor housing screws.

    • Using the same flathead screwdriver, remove the two 28 mm locking screws.

    • One of the locking screws contains a safety locking mechanism. Do not interchange these screws with the front motor housing screws.

Classic Plus uses a square-drive screw. You’ll need #1 size.

    Robert Kyle - Yanıt

How do I know which one of the locking screws contains a safety locking mechanism?

    • Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, remove the 10 mm screw from top of back cover.

    • The rear cover is now completely free from the mixer.

When I removed this, 2 nuts were in there lose. I cannot tell where they came from.

    • Carefully pull the power cord from the notch in back of the mixer.

    • The motor housing cover is now completely free from the base of the mixer.

For the KSM90BU model, take a set of needlenose pliers and carefully rotate the plastic clip 90 degrees, then pull the cord out of the notch.

    kann hier jemand helfen?

    Marius Quaschinski - Yanıt

Hi all, for your information: I also have the model 5ksm150 and managed to remove the top of the machine with a lot of effort, wiggling back and forth until it came out. That worked after about 10-15 min :-) Now the good mixer works again!

    Francois - Yanıt

Any tips for doing this? It’s very stuck!

I cannot remove the housing cover… it is stuck. Any tips?

    Marina Juarez - Yanıt

Don’t forget to clean ALL the old lubricant out. Don’t leave any as can contaminate the fresh lube. I recommend rectorseal food-grade anti-seize & lubricant. Happy mixing!

How much lubricant should be in the the motor, there is a large amt amt everywhere

Instruccion is exelent but I veleave the problem is electric. can you give aidea. dhe machine does’nt work at all

Aristides Aleman - Yanıt

Thank you! I'm repainting my white mixer a deep cherry red gloss to match my kitchen. These mixers can last 20+ years, if you take care of them. But, who wants the same color kitchen for that long? Bonus: saved $50+ by painting it the color I wanted, rather than pay the extra for a mixer from the colored choices.

Heather Schrader - Yanıt

Do the motor housing sometimes become to hard to remove? I followed all the steps yet it still acts as if something inside the housing is keeping it from coming off.

Royce M - Yanıt

Nothing else, only the planetary assembly, and the 9 big housing screws. Once those are off, it can take a lot of jiggling and persistence, mostly because there’s a vacuum between the vertical shaft and the bushing inside. Remember to loosen the cord in case to prevent yanking it accidentally when the cover comes off.

Ariel Cornejo -

A gentle twist with a blade screwdriver in each of the control knob slots will start the separation.

John Hogg -

Did you ever get the housing cover off? I’m having the same issue! I feel like the grease might have suctioned the cover and is stuck.

Marina Juarez -

Reassembly of motor housing onto base took a bit of patience, as it took a couple of minutes to line up the gears. You need to insert a punch or thin screwdriver in the shaft where you attach your beater or whip. Use the screwdriver to turn the shaft while pressing down gently on the top of the housing. Eventually the gears will align and the housing will lower into place. Then you can insert your fasteners, the planetary, and the planetary pin.

rtresssider - Yanıt

I followed your instructions and removed the top housing. The inside of my housing has “piles” of jelly like goo (I’m assuming it’s old congealed oil). What should the inside look like? Should I remove this oil? I looks like mushed up prunes. (sorry I couldn’t come up with a better comparison). My machine has been making a very loud humming/grinding noise when I run it.

Renea Ree - Yanıt

The “goo” is the grease applied during assembly. The tv show “how its made” covered the assembly of these mixers, and they use a substantial amount of grease. Oil, on the other hand, will be thinner, and flow/run/drip. The grease will stay put or move really slowly.

Hi Chris, I’ve tried to remove the pin from the planetary gear cover, but it will not budge. Any suggestions? Thanks

Stephanie Rothschild - Yanıt

Having the same problem, is there a solution to this?

Clarise Dizon -

I have got the same problem…

Nabil Baker -

A drop of penetrating oil, then tapping on the pin to create vibrations & if needed letting it set (even overnight if need be) should unstick the pin.

ScrappyLaptop -

My model doesn’t seem to have the rear screws shown in Step 5?

Anne-Catherine - Yanıt

What happens if I didn’t realize there was a locking washer on one of those rear screws and put it back together without it? The video I watched didn’t mention it until I already had the thing all put together again and then I didn’t see any extra washer lying around.. Until my husband found it on the floor… it was a bear getting the pin out of the planetary gear cover.

how do you replace the lower gear case on a K45 SS tilt? Is it difficult? please advise instructions. thank you

eva b adler - Yanıt

props to whoever posted this. I used it to get mine apart correctly in less than five minutes. cleaning the grease out took 20 but….still a win

Carl York - Yanıt

I have a dough hook that is completely stuck on the stem of the mixer. I tried the compress and hot water. No luck. I tried pretty much every online removal method I could find with no luck. I disassembled the chuck and have it off and separate from the machine. I managed to hammer the stem down but still can’t get it to turn so it will release the hook. I ran a punch through the hole at the top of the stem to try to turn it. It broke the punch lol. I’ve tried pb blaster to loosen it and that hasn’t worked. My last two options are going to be boil it and try to turn it, or put the hook in a vice, torch the heck out of the stem, then run a rod through that top hole again and try to turn it with the torch on it. If you have any better advice, please let me know.

Thank you for your help. It's beyond my ability but interesting to learn about it. At least I'll know what the repairperson is talking about.
