So I don’t remove the MLB?

When re assembling the press fit connector will not stay in place when trying the shut the case, it seems too short.

Is there a nack or trick to doing this please?

    • There may be a glue strip between the battery and the outside case. Gently pry the case open and use the flat end of a spudger to separate the glue strip.

What is that black tape holding the antenna called? It is metallic on the other side. I dont think mine will re-stick is there something else I can use or do I need to find the same stuff? For this Kindle, reversing your steps doesnt quite work if you dont know what tapes and adhesives to get to close it up. I found the yellow tape is called a heat transfer tape but I still have no idea what double sided adhesive to get to mount the screen/digitizer assembly and bezel back on. Dont think Ill be putting any back on the battery and dont think I want it to be as difficult as the original, any suggestions please? Im stuck at this step and am having trouble finding the answer anywhere!

What glue to use to put it back together? Thanks

    N. Watson - Yanıt

I finished adding the battery and found the directions 100 percent accurate for the disassembly. The assembly is another issue. When you remove the mother board in step 12, you also unplug the two ribbon cables beneath it. Assembly is next to impossible with two ribbon cables below the motherboard moving and not lined up. I was able to get slack on the large ribbon cable but the one with the smaller cable had no extra slack. I then took a small dremel tool and removed the grey structural tab the cable ran under This gave me the slack I needed for installation of the cables. Been two months now and the Kindle is running like new.

These instructions look great, but I can’t get those six pink 3mm T3 Torx screws from the back case off. In fact, I believe I’ve stripped them pretty badly. Any ideas? Super glue my screwdriver to them?

Thanks for the instructions but there’s one important step that you missed for anyone trying this. I followed the instructions exactly but was left with a blank screen at the end of the reassembly. The reason for this is that when you remove the motherboard in step 12 (having removed the connectors from the top of the board), the action of removal also disconnects the display and digitiser connectors which reside beneath the board.

This isn’t explicitly mentioned in the instructions but if you look to the right of the images for step 12, beneath the right hand corner of the board is a small black connector on a copper coloured square and a little further back from this (obscured by the board in the picture) is another larger connector. Both of these MUST be reconnected when replacing the board and before continuing the other reassembly steps otherwise your screen will simply not function

Hope this helps someone.

trishgal - I used this battery kit

https://www.batteryship.com/htmlos/htmlo...

All the tools you need are there. I did buy the T3 Torx screwdriver. It was too big for the pink screws. The one in the above kit worked. I also bought the ifix adhesive remover kit.

It took me 4 hours over 2 days to get the back off the kindle. I almost separated the screen from the electronics. Have not attempted to put everything back together yet, however, Greg Ferry, I did notice the very thing you mentioned. And I have 2 unrelated questions.

1) Do I need glue to reassemble this? Can I just use crazy glue?

2) My volume buttons weren’t working. Is there some electronic contact that needs to be made? I wonder if the fact that the old battery was expanding (which is why I’m replacing it) had anything to do with that.

Cynthia Verost - Yanıt

Hi Cynthia, I found that the ridiculously strong glue Amazon used retained enough stickiness that I didn’t need to use any more. The battery is held in place by the design, and the black plate that you first removed is light enough that the residual glue held it nicely. but if not, some mild glue (not solvent based) should be sufficient.

Re: volume buttons, all of the back panel buttons (power, volume) and the USB port are run through the first cable that’s disconnected in step 5. If you are still having issues with volume once it’s been reconnected, perhaps check the alignment on the connector and make sure it’s fully seated. I’d also suggest not clipping the screen fully back in until you’ve tested everything; that way you don’t risk cracking the screen with repeated removals.

My battery too was bulging but once I replaced it, the device went back to it’s original flat profile so it doesn’t seem to have caused any long term damage.

Thanks Gary. I’m just getting ready to try and put it back together. I’m guessing I should try to charge the battery before I close it up.

Kindle is working!! The pictures were a great help. FYI - there are actually nine 3mm screws (step 8). The 9th one is under the press fit connector in step 6. Also, if you have never done this before, it’s really about a 6-8 hour job, 4 of which just to pry the Kindle apart. Be careful that you’re not just prying off the screen. It’s attached to the ‘guts’ which are clipped in there. So be patient. I’ve read too many comments on other sites where people cracked the screen. And heed Greg’s warning about reconnecting those 2 obscure press fit connectors. I was able to pull the ribbon on the smaller one under the metal piece and it was easier to connect. Also, once I replaced the pink screws, the sound buttons worked.

Cynthia and Greg, thank you for your helpful comments. I will be attempting to disassemble my Kindle Fire 7 HDX next week once the supplies and battery arrive.

Cynthia, did you charge the battery before closing the case to make sure that the battery worked?

Any other tips to avoid cracking the display screen during disassembly which I also saw is a problem with this particular model?

As for the step that Greg said was missing in the pictures above … how do you reconnect the two areas under the motherboard that Greg referenced when reassembling? Just realign them somehow or does the motherboard pop in over them?

As you can tell, I am a total novice at this.

And finally, is there a way to test the unit before putting the case back together to avoid having to open it again and possibly cracking the display?

This model Kindle Fire was the very best Amazon EVER offered. My battery is dying and if this battery replacement can remedy the issue, I would be most grateful!

Thanks again, Greg and Cynthia, for your input.

Greg and Cynthia, I installed the new battery following all of Blake's images and also with the guidance from both of you. I have not yet clipped the screen back in place, the Kindle is running and I am charging the battery.

I noticed the same thing that Cynthia noticed. I currently have no sound, however, I have yet to fully clip the screen back on and reattach the speaker bezel and screw back in the six pink screws.

Cynthia, you mention that once you reattached the speaker bezel and the pink screws, your sound returned.

Am I correct in thinking that this step will return the sound?I

I don't want to snap it all back together only to discover that I have no sound at all.

Thanks so much!

I was successful in replacing the battery (yay!) but managed to crack the screen in the process. I am assuming that is why the screen does not fully respond to touch - I can swipe but cannot enter the password, nor respond to ‘do you want to shut down?’ Or, might this be related to the difficulty of attaching the two ribbon cables under the motherboard? I can’t be sure that both of them are successfully seated. Thoughts?

Will this kit work for the first gen, 2011, HDX 7” fire? The battery on my 1st gen hdx is slowly dying, but otherwise the device is mostly superior to the 10th gen 8” fire I recently purchased.

Started this and foolishly I used a screwdriver on one spot instead of a spudger and cracked the glass. I even had the spudger sitting there that I'd already used - I'm an idiot (but I have spares). One thing about the "needed" list: aside from the T3 it lists a T5 torx when it's actually a T3 and a T6 as mentioned in the article body.

Thanks for a thorough disassembly method though regardless of whether I manage to complete a repair.

Hi,

I followed the directions but once I put it back together the screen is blank! What do I do?
