  1. Lenovo Thinkpad x230 SSD/Hard Drive Replacement, Preparations: adım 1, 1 resimden 1.
    • Before you begin, be sure to turn off your laptop and unplug it from the outlet.

Wouldn’t the risk of ESD damage be a bigger concern than electrical shock from a 20V/90W power supply? I mean, it would hurt, but it almost certainly wouldn’t kill you.

    • Use a small Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the single screw that holds down the hard drive enclosure cover.

    • Pull on the tab firmly but slowly. The hard drive should come out of the enclosure effortlessly.

    • Remove the plastic rails from the old SSD/hard drive and place them on the new SSD/hard drive.

One question: I wanted to replace my broken ssd with a new one. What do I do with the black plastic pull tab? I cannot really take it off and put it on the new drive. I'm afraid I wont be able to pull it out again if I don't have this on the new one. Or do I need to buy one? What is it called properly? Would be great to get some help on this!

Hi,

I have an lenovo thinkpad x230t convertible laptop, which I want to upgrade with a ssd what are the specifications I should be looking for in a ssd so that it would be compatible with my laptop,

Thanks in advance

adwaitgaikwad - Yanıt

It has to be a 2.5” drive, and 7mm thick. That’s all you need to make sure of; it’ll work fine once you’ve got the OS installed on it.

Hi, I already upgraded my x230 to SSD from Samsung. I need to upgrade it now to M.2 SSD. Is that possible even if I have to use the WWAN slot.

Looking forward for your thoughts

Hani - Yanıt

Sorry, but X230 doesn’t have the M.2 slot. It has mSata instead. You are supposed to install the mSata drive into mPCI-E slot.

My x230 does not have plastic rails holding the HD. Instead the 500 GB HD is held in an aluminum cassette by four screws.

I want to change the HD to an SSD type. Can the x230 handle a 1TB SSD? Is there a maximum size by design. FYI I am using Linux not Windows.

Thanks

In my x230 i have 320GB seagate SATA II HDD. I want to upgrade it to 500GB Toshiba SATA III. dose x230 support SATA III HDD?

Alif Uz Zaman - Yanıt

X230 does support SATA III. All the 30 series ThinkPads (ones with a 3rd gen Intel CPU) support SATA III, and SATA is backwards-compatible anyway so even if your specific X230 won’t do SATA III, it’ll still run.

WHY REMOVE BATTERY FIRST?

I find I could just unscrew and remove the HDD slot cover and plugged in a spare SSD.

Have I done something detrimental to the well-being by not removing the battery first?

Removing the battery is just a safety measure to ensure that the system is completely without power.

Hi sir,

I’ve read in this Post that the mSATA is limited to SATA 2 in X230

Is that true?
