If your trackpad is broken or needs to be removed for easier access to the battery, follow these steps.
For your safety, discharge your MacBook Pro's battery below 25% before you begin this procedure. A charged lithium-ion battery can create a dangerous and uncontrollable fire if accidentally punctured.

If your MacBook is running Big Sur v11.1 or later, disabling Auto Boot may not work. You can proceed normally, but make sure to disconnect the battery as soon as you're inside.
-
Use a P5 Pentalobe driver to remove the six screws securing the lower case:
-
Two 6.8 mm screws
-
Two 5.3 mm screws
-
Two 3.4 mm screws
-
-
-
Insert your opening pick once again under the front edge of the lower case, near one of the two centermost screw holes.
-
Give the pick a firm twist to pop free the third clip securing the lower case to the chassis.
-
Repeat this procedure near the other of the two centermost screw holes, popping the fourth clip free.
-
-
-
Pull the lower case firmly towards the front of the MacBook (away from the hinge area) to separate the last of the clips securing the lower case.
Be mindful of finger placement as the inside edges of the case are very sharp and may cut you.
literally just cut myself
I used the suction cup to pull/slide the lower case from the back clips
This is probably the most difficult step. It doesn't come easily, you have to be careful but very firm and apply plenty of force. The edges are somewhat sharp, but I didn't cut myself. Just don't slide your fingers along the edges. I had the best luck orienting the computer in portrait (like the pictures) and pushing on the front right edge of the main chasis with my right hand fingers while pushing the opposite direction on the bottom lid with my left hand fingers (place your fingers right in the crack of the hinge).

Remove the lower case.
-
Set it in place and align the sliding clips near the display hinge. Press down and slide the cover toward the hinge. It should stop sliding as the clips engage.
-
When the sliding clips are fully engaged and the lower case looks correctly aligned, press down firmly on the lower case to engage the four hidden clips underneath. You should feel and hear them snap into place.

Carefully peel up the large piece of tape covering the battery connector, on the edge of the logic board nearest the battery.

Remove the tape.

Use a T5 Torx driver to remove the 3.7 mm pancake screw securing the battery power connector.
io ho trovato un Torx T4 invece del T5.
Ciao Stefano! Grazie per il commento. Infatti c’è sempre una certa tolleranza fra il cacciavite e la testa delle viti. Quindi è possibile che un cacciavite più grande o più piccolo sia più “comodo” in certi casi. Buona riparazione!
konnte diese Verbindung nicht lösen. Zu sehr angezogen

Use a spudger to gently lift the battery power connector, disconnecting the battery.
-
Lift the connector high enough so that it stays separated from its socket.
Please save yourself a pile of money and read this before doing this step: I bricked my MacBook by not being extremely careful and making sure to NOT touch the connector together as I took it apart. Ouch ouch ouch. 😫

Use a T5 Torx driver to remove the two 1.9 mm screws securing the trackpad cable connector bracket.

Prepare an iOpener and lay it on top of the trackpad ribbon cable for about a minute, in order to soften the adhesive securing the trackpad ribbon cable to the top of the battery.
-
If you don't have an iOpener, use a hair dryer to warm up the cable instead. The cable should be warm, but not too hot to touch. Be careful not to overheat the battery.
The iOpener is not really needed for this step. The ribbon cable peels off without any bending with just a light pull.
I concur with Mark. Just a light pull, easy does it.
Mine didn't come off easily, it definitely needed heating

Compare your new replacement part to the original part—you may need to transfer remaining components or remove adhesive backings from the new part before installing.
To reassemble your device, follow the above steps in reverse order.

Does anyone knows, if I follow this procedure carefully just to clean the inside of the trackpad, if it will void my warranty? Or there isn’t any way for Apple to know that I’ve done this?
Thanks for this guide, it was excellent – easy to follow. I used the iFixit Essential Electronics Toolkit for the first time to do this and the box lid with moulded grid proved very useful for keeping the screws mapped to where they belonged in the laptop.
I would suggest adding that the laptop must be connected to power to restart it after the repair. Pressing the power button to no response induced a small panic but plugging it in brought it right back.
Is it completely necessary to disconnect the battery? 8 - 14 is it absolutely necessary?
I followed direction and it was very good but some how my keyboard stop working. I looked at every thing that I did and nothing came lose. The touch screen on the keyboard is working and I see light under it but no typing off the laptop keyboard, Any suggestion?
I'm about to attempt this repair, but I've heard about Apple disabling features when replacing with any hardware that was not originally tied to the device, especially with iPhones. Is this also the case with the 2020 M1 13" MBP? Would a trackpad replacement trigger the T2 chip?
You shouldn't have any problems or lose features after replacing the trackpad. If you wanted to replace the Touch ID power button though, for example, the replacement would be tied to another logic board—meaning you'd need to replace them together.
I use a empty egg carton to place screws in in the order of removal from computer
