a Student at work broke there xm5's and I offered to try and fix them, this is what I found
This is an incomplete guide, as I only briefly had these headphones, and was not authorised to do a full disassembly, and did not have spare parts
Please replace this guide should a more complete version be created.
``Its important to note that in this case the metal swivel in the headphone band was intact, and the plastic had not broken, if that were the case you would need to replace the whole headphone band, there are other guides for that:

Using the spugger pull the earpad inward, and pry the ear pad up and away from the earcup

We separate the back of the ear cup to get better acsess to the arm later

Remove the non glued down foam, and the 8 marked screws

this screw is easyer to acsess without the back of the headphone cup

there is a screwed and plate covering the attachment hardware that has come lose its location is indicated here:

We can use the access back here to hold onto the silver mounting screw and make sure we can screw the arm back together

pull out this adjustable arm piece out of the headband

Unscrew the wire free from the adjustable arm piece, letting the arm spin freely around the wire.

screw the adjustable arm piece back on-to the earcup arm, in my case there was some resistance from a lip on the screw that prevented it becoming unscrewed in the first place. i was able to gently push past it multiple times till it was screwed on snugly

go backwards though the steps to re-assemble

as always, i added a little Easter egg to my free repairs.
