Introduction
Recently, we’re noticing that a host of electronic components are finding their way into the world of two-wheelers. We’ve been saying it for years: Any product that '''can''' have embedded electronics, '''will ''' eventually have embedded electronics. We’re seeing electronic gearshift systems, proximity sensors or even height-adjustable seat posts that can be triggered wirelessly. Last not least, pedal electric cycles are booming all over Europe and Asia. While they are certainly a blessing in hilly areas and do increase the range that can be reliably pedaled by commuters of all ages, we can’t help but ask ourselves one question: How durable and repairable are these increasingly complex vehicles? From the country that has produced the Flying Pidgeon, the most popular bicycle model in human history, we’ve brought to our teardown studio the MiJia QiCycle Folding Electric Bike. It is Xiaomi’s first foray into the world of e-bikes. Bicycles are cool as they are, and electric bicycles are awesome. When they’re also foldable we can’t resist. So let’s take a closer look: It’s cycle teardown time!
