How can I fix broken camera cable

While I am trying to remove the optical drive from my MBP with following the instructions of the iFixit, I could not remove the Camera cable socket and I broke off the cable from the socket. You can see the current situation of the cable and socket from the pictures I uploaded:

For checking my system after this accident, I run my laptop and as I expected camera did not work. But everything except camera was working well.

So what's the way of fix this problem?

By the way, I just realized that actually I was able to remove the Optical Drive without removing that lovely socket!..

Thanks!

Hello Yusuf,

Did you find a way to solve your problem?

Regards

tarafından

Nope, not yet because of my unusual busy period i could not focus on this problem...

Also I am kind of hesitating about fixing this tiny problem with a huge technical solution as @Dan mentioned above.

I don't want to take the display off and its almost whole components, at least i think i am not able to make it possible in this way... If there is no other option, i guess i will have to go to some service/technician in a time.

Well you're lucky here! you only pulled off the cable connector and did not damage the logic board connector (you'll need to carefully remove the remaining cable connector piece) while not the best picture look at this: Removed iSight cable connector. Thats the good news! Now the bad ;-{

To replace the cable you'll need to take the display off and then dissemble it. This is a very big job! And you do need to be more careful. Instead of going that deep you could replace the full lid assembly while more expensive it will be a lot easier! Here is the steps to pulling off the display assembly: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Early 2011 Display Replacement.

You'll need to refer to this guide to give you an idea how to disassemble the display the rest of the way: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009 LCD Replacement Jump to Step 15, so you can get the cable connection on the displays logic board. The next issue is finding the cable which will be difficult.

Hey Dan,

Thank you for your answer.

However, I'm a little confused about the part when you say "remove the remaining cable connector piece".

The photo in the link you've attached was referred to as the "Trackpad Cable" in step 10 of another ifixit page ( MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Logic Board Replacement ).

So i'm wondering if its the right cable, and whether it would be okay not removing that end of the cable.

Thanks

As I stated the image is the best I can find that shows the cable disconnected. Look at the top right corner in the image the two round cables the lower one is the video connector unplugged from its socket.

hi I have the same problem and I need your help. My solution is to buy the cable and solder the wires one by one. It is much easier to disassemble the entire screen. the only problem is that the original cable has 6 colors (one for each cable) and cable replacement only 3 colors. in tonces I need to know the exact pinout to weld properly. you can help?

Then you got the wrong part. Here's the correct cable: MacBook Pro 13" iSight Cable - Apple P/N: 821-0867-A

This cable is for MacBook Pro 13" early 2011?

@mimonton - How about creating your own question with your systems info as the is the correct part for the OP's system. Yours maybe different or you damaged a different cable. Take a good set of picture's to add to your new question. The more info the easier I can help you.

Or you could just buy an external webcam and deal with that until your ready for an upgrade.

Sorry, the way macs work won't allow that as the displays camera has a thermal sensor which is now disconnected will force SMC into CPU safe mode causing the fan to race and the CPU to run at a slower clock rate.
