New hard drive cable saved the day!

I upgraded my old 256G magnetic hard drive in my mid 2010 macbook with a new 256G SSD Solid state drive (CT4693688 CT256M550SSD1.PK01 256GB) from Crucial, and once installed, I kept getting errors each time I tried to format the new disk. (DISK ERASE FAILED WITH THE ERROR WIPING VOLUME DATA TO PREVENT FUTURE ACCIDENTAL PROBING FAILED.)
Well. I looked up online from various posts (including here at Ifixit) and saw that this was due to a possible issue with the cable to the disk drive -

I followed directions on ifixit and installed a new hard drive cable. (It was surprisingly straightforward, but see below). I had in the meantime, formatted and loaded OS X maverick onto the SDD using a 2.5in external enclosure (recommend buying one of these). When I fired it up - worked first time, and booted far faster than ever before. I guess that the old cable was either on the way out, or perhaps it was not deisgned to take the high data throughput of the new SSD drive. Well, now it seems all good. Thanks ifixit!

Sticking the small cable to the infrared drive down onto the aluminium body was a little tricky (make sure that you stick it flush to the vertical walls, with no gap as it makes the 90degree turn from the vertical to the horizontal sides of the hard drive cavity).
