Purchased this HP laptop a year ago intended for my mother’s use. However, last week, she contacted me, expressing her concern that the laptop wouldn’t power on.

In response, I initially attempted the most straightforward solutions, such as performing a soft reset by holding down the power button for a specified duration, swapping RAM, and exhaustively exploring all available troubleshooting methods that didn't entail replacing internal components.

Encountering several setbacks, I embarked on a troubleshooting journey to resolve issues with my laptop. Here’s a breakdown of the problems and their solutions:

Power LED Blinking and No Boot:

The initial problem arose when the power LED blinked in alternating yellow and white for a brief period, followed by a failure to boot. My first suspicion was a faulty battery, confirmed by a reading of 0.33 volts on the multimeter. Consequently, I ordered a replacement, anticipating a chip malfunction within the battery.

However, a lingering doubt surfaced during the wait for the new battery. Why wouldn’t the laptop power on solely with the charger? Contrary to online claims suggesting this model wouldn’t boot without a functioning battery, a local seller’s laptop, advertised with a dead battery, contradicted this belief. Upon closer inspection, I noticed a bent middle pin in the charger’s plug. After rectifying this issue and allowing a 20-minute charge cycle, the voltage stabilized at 11.4 volts, restoring power to the laptop.

Black Screen Backlight ON and No Boot:

Subsequently, a black screen issue persisted despite resolving the power problem. A complete teardown ensued, involving the removal of the BIOS battery and swapping RAM sticks in an attempt to identify the cause. However, the efforts yielded no results. Resorting to connecting an external monitor revealed the presence of Windows, indicating the laptop was functional.

Determined to uncover the root of the screen blackout, I disassembled the entire display assembly. Surprisingly, I found that the screen connector hadn’t been securely plugged in, causing the display failure.

With meticulous troubleshooting and patience, all issues were successfully resolved. The laptop now operates without any hindrance.

Before purchasing any :

- Check Charger and Battery Voltage: Use a multimeter to test the voltage of both the charger and the battery. Ensure they are delivering the expected power output to the laptop.

- Inspect Screen Connector: Examine the screen connector connections, both where it connects to the motherboard and on the panel itself. Loose or improperly connected cables can cause display issues.

- Utilize Service Manuals: Access service manuals for your specific laptop model using resources like the Wayback Machine (HP no longer has them on their site). These manuals often provide detailed instructions and shortcuts for disassembly, preventing unnecessary removal of parts. For instance, my laptop, the motherboard had a hole that allowed easy removal of the keyboard without the need for prying.
