Was given an iPhone 4 that would not start up.

A friend of mine offered to give me her broken iPhone if I could get her pictures off of it for her. I run a local computer/electronic repair shop, and I hadn't had a project like this before, but I decided I would give it a shot.

I followed the walkthrough on ifixit, and the repair went very smoothly. Just take your time and follow the instructions, they work perfectly. The only problem that I had, though, is that the I started taking the phone apart via the GSM guide, and got about 10 steps in before I realized that I was using the wrong guide (I needed a CDMA guide). Maybe we could get a bit clearer indication of which device is featured in circumstances like these, where devices are very similar. Other than that, excellent service ifixit.com, you guys are fantastic. Repair took about 2 hours if I remember correctly.

The magnetic project mat was invaluable, I would suggest it to anyone who works with small electronic parts. Just take it easy and make sure you give yourself plenty of time.
