Two dying iPhone 5 batteries, fifteen minutes, one fix!

The batteries on our iPhone 5 phones were dying middle of the way through the day, and especially on cold days when we were up skiing. So it was time to replace them after about a year and a half.

My ten-year-old son did most of the replacement, looking at the iFixit website and a YouTube video. I supervised. It took about 10 minutes for the first one. The only sticking points were prying out the old battery, which required a stiff kitchen knife, and then snapping the glass back in the case. I didn't get the edge of the glass deep enough in to the case the first try, and it took a bit of doing to get it out again. But the second phone only took about 2 1/2 minutes. Practice makes perfect!

Practice on someone else's phone first.
