    • Let's put the Huawei P30 Pro into perspective with a glance at the specs:

    • 6.47" OLED display with FHD+ (2340 × 1080) resolution

    • 8-core Huawei Kirin 980 Processor with dual neural-network processing units and Mali-G76 MP10 GPU

    • 6 GB RAM and 128 GB onboard storage (configurable to 8 GB RAM and up to 512 GB storage)

    • Leica "quad" rear camera with 40 MP wide-angle (ƒ/1.6 with OIS) + 20 MP ultra-wide angle (ƒ/2.2) + 8 MP telephoto (ƒ/3.4 with OIS) + Huawei time-of-flight module—plus, a 32 MP selfie cam (ƒ/2.0)

    • A new earpiece speaker technology called "Acoustic Display Technology," plus an in-display fingerprint sensor

    • USB-C charging port (but no headphone jack)

    • IP68 water/dust-resistance rating

  2. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 2, 3 resimden 1. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 2, 3 resimden 2. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 2, 3 resimden 3.
    • We pull out yesteryear's P20 Pro and put it next to Huawei's latest camera prodigy for some quick comparisons:

    • The P30 Pro (left/bottom) is 3 mm taller, 0.61 mm thicker, and a little less wide (0.5 mm) than its predecessor.

    • Despite the home button and earpiece speaker grille vanishing behind the screen, the P30 Pro has grown taller.

    • The power and volume buttons are still where they were last year.

    • Along the bottom edge of the phone we see the USB-C port remains, while the four microphone holes mirroring the speaker holes have been cut down to one to make room for the SIM card slot.

    • Make sure you put that SIM eject tool in the correct hole ...

Wasn’t paying attention and i put the sim eject tool in the hole in the top right. Have i damaged my device? What is that hole for?

    just looking - Yanıt

No worries. That’s a hole for the top microphone. And you did not damage that either since it is installed at an angle like the micrphone on the bottom (step 9). Everything should still work fine.

    Roy Fajardo - Yanıt

No se preocupe, colocar la llave SIM en el orificio del micrófono no dañará nada.

    iSclack

    Satın Al
    • As we begin our teardown, we notice an extremely tight gap between the frame and the back glass, barely noticeable to the naked eye.

    • Manufacturing tolerances seem to keep shrinking—making it more difficult to open many of these glued-shut devices. Is this the price for IP68?

    • With a little heat, the iSclack, and an opening pick, we manage our way through the back cover adhesive.

    • Of course, the back cover is made of glass to increase the crackability rating of the device make wireless charging possible.

  4. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 4, 3 resimden 1. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 4, 3 resimden 2. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 4, 3 resimden 3.

Mako Driver Kit - 64 Precision Bits
    $39.95
    Satın Al
    • We equip ourselves with the Precision Bit Driver and a Phillips bit from our Mako Driver Set, which is (spoiler alert) the only bit we need until the end of this teardown. For that, we're pleased.

    • Next out is the wireless charging coil attached to the motherboard cover, which also carries some antennas and a strange orange flex cable to bridge two contacts—what for, we're not sure.

    • This charging coil not only charges the phone, but also works in reverse to charge your mouse, electrical razor, or toothbrush—no kidding.

    • It seems that for 2019, reverse charging is becoming standard equipment on flagship phones.

  5. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 5, 3 resimden 1. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 5, 3 resimden 2. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 5, 3 resimden 3.
    • With the phone now fully open, we head straight for the cameras. First out is the new periscope-style camera module that is said to make up to 50x zoom possible.

    • Instead of resorting to a massive camera bump, this module is rotated 90° from the aperture, laying flat in the phone with a prism refracting the light onto the sensor.

    • But wait—it seems this module isn't used between 1x-5x zoom, coming into play beyond 5x zoom only.

    • The P30 Pro has five cameras in total. Starting at top left: a 20 MP ultra-wide-angle, a 40 MP wide-angle with the Time-of-Flight camera next to it, the 8 MP telephoto (for up to 50x zoom), and of course at top right is the front-facing camera with an impressive 32 MP.

    • Interestingly, the 40 MP camera sensor switched from an RGGB (Red/Green/Green/Blue) bayer filter to a RYYB (Red/Yellow/Yellow/Blue) pattern. This pattern is said to increase light sensitivity, and could help with contrast since they ditched the monochrome sensor from last year's P20 Pro.

What is the telephoto sensor? What's the size of the cmos?

    Fox Han - Yanıt

There is a shielding clip over the connector for the top back camera connector, it seems the planned removal procedure is to slide it towards the bottom of phone - freeing it from the top mounting thingy.

Before the next person stumbles over that and lifts the pad like me ^^'

If you lift the pad for that top mounting thingy: some super glue should be fine, according to the schematics I found, the pad isn't connected to anything and the spring contact right next to it seems to be GND - so as long as the other mounting thingy isn't a signal or power connection (which wouldn't make sense), it shouldn't be too bad if the newly glued-on mounting thingy touches that spring contact.

Will try to remember reporting back if that works out in the end - but waiting for replacement parts right now.

    • For further insight, we peel off the shields and seek out some chips:

    • SK hynix H9HKNNNFBMAU LPDDR4X—with the Huawei Kirin 980 layered underneath

    • Micron MTFC128GAOANAM-WT 128 GB flash storage

    • HiSilicon Hi6405 audio codec

    • HiSilicon Hi6363 RF transceiver

    • Skyworks SKY78191-11 front end module for WCDMA/LTE

    • Qorvo QM77031 front end module

    • HiSilicon Hi6H02T and Hi6H01T low noise amplifier/RF switch modules

    • Remember that missing earpiece speaker grille on the front of this phone? That's thanks to Huawei's "Acoustic Display Technology" speaker, which works like a vibration speaker (a.k.a. structure-borne driver).

    • This works almost like a "normal" speaker—but instead of vibrating a membrane to produce sound waves, it vibrates a rigid surface (the glass screen), transforming the screen into a speaker.

    • The driving part of this module consists of a coil with a magnet in the middle. It is coupled with the part that vibrates the screen, which is glued to the back of the display.

    • Don't confuse it with the conventional vibration motor for alerts, which is mounted on the metal frame next to it.

  9. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 9, 3 resimden 1. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 9, 3 resimden 2. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 9, 3 resimden 3.
    • On our way to the fingerprint sensor, we fish out the USB-C port, attached to a long interconnect cable.

    • If you opt to charge wirelessly, the wear-and-tear on this port should be greatly reduced—but when it does fail, it's nice to see that it comes out separately from the daughterboard and SIM card reader.

    • We're all in favor of more major component modularity (or MMCM, as no one calls it). This makes for greatly expedited repairs compared with, say, the soldered ports on the new Galaxy S10 line.

    • While we're here, we extract the traditional (non-display-based) loudspeaker module.

  10. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 10, 3 resimden 1. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 10, 3 resimden 2. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 10, 3 resimden 3.
    • We finally reach the fingerprint sensor, mounted quite close to the bottom edge of the phone. What is the maximum thumb length here for comfortable unlocking?

    • This fingerprint sensor is the same Goodix GM185 optical scanner as seen in the OnePlus 6T, the Xiaomi Mi 9, and the Vivo Nex S.

    • Optical sensor, you say? That makes a total of six cameras in this phone, technically speaking.

  11. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 11, 3 resimden 1. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 11, 3 resimden 2. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 11, 3 resimden 3.
    • The battery comes with these handy pull tabs, previously seen in the Mate 20 Pro.

    • While the tabs labelled "1" and "2" are somewhat useless (don't mistake them for adhesive pull tabs), number 3 helps us lever the energy cell out of the case.

    • This battery delivers a typical capacity of 16.04 Wh (4200 mAh @ 3.82 V)—which is on par with the Mate 20 Pro, while beating the Galaxy S10+ (15.79 Wh), not to mention the iPhone XS Max (12.08 Wh).

A board must be packed in battery pack. It is possible to be seen by just peel off the cover film near the terminal.

    • Moving on to the screen, we find the second half of the glass-vibrating earpiece speaker module stuck to the back of the display as we fight through the adhesive.

    • Similar to the back cover, the gap between the frame and the display is virtually non-existent—and the slightly-curved edges of the display don't help, either. We're pretty sure this display is done for after the heat, cutting, and prying it's endured.

    • The strong adhesive strings between the frame and the display fight us like Spider-Man trying to reassemble a boat.

    • The question that arises for us is: If your screen should break or crack toward the top half of the phone, will there be any sound distortion with the new earpiece speaker technology? Will it even work at all? We'll investigate—stay tuned.

After display replacement, ear speaker sound have distortion. Why?

  13. Huawei P30 Pro Teardown: adım 13, 1 resimden 1.
    • Having finished with the P30 Pro we focus in on the important stuff:

    • A tightly-glued-shut device with the barest sliver of a gap for entry

    • An inside crammed with nifty optical tech like a periscope camera and an in-display fingerprint sensor

    • A plus-sized battery with some pull tabs for grappling with the glue

    • And a tall screen with the earpiece speaker glued to its back.

    • Taking everything into account, it is time to zoom in on the score.

  14. Son Düşünceler
    • A single Phillips driver is all we need to handle the screws.
    • Most components are modular and can be replaced independently—except for one half of the earpiece speaker.
    • Battery replacement is possible, if you're willing to fight through the glue.
    • Heavily glued-down glass both front and back means greater risk of breakage, and makes repairs difficult to start.
    • Screen repairs require a lot of disassembly while battling tough adhesive (back, battery and screen).

Tnx for disassembly explanation. What is under PCB stack?

Is there any chance you will do a overview of the front internals for a wallpaper? I along with other people would be thrilled to have it :)

Hi Robert,

You can find the wallpaper here! Enjoy!

Orange flex looks like grounding flex. It would be nice to see what is other side of that part.

Tony Vahtera - Yanıt

I accidentally poked the sim tool in the microphone instead of the sim tray. It still works, but i’m worried i may have compromised the water resistance… Does anybody have an idea wether or not I did?

michaelcreutzburg - Yanıt

No worries, neither the microphone nor the rubber sealing can be damaged by inserting a SIM tool in the microphone hole.

Tobias Isakeit -

I installed a T-Max Huawei P30 Pro liquid screen protector. I never installed a liquid screen protector before. The kit seemed quite decent. After succesfully installing it, it says to rub off the excess glue with an alcohol wipe which I did. Had some extra glue on the edge of my phone left. The problem is that I noticed some black rubbery thing coming off as well. I think it's the adhesive of my phone. I had to cut it off with my scissors. Now it looks like this: https://imgur.com/49I3sNE

What's the chance that I ruined my P30 Pro's waterproofness?

MrDooMixy - Yanıt

Hi, kinda curious how so much alcohol got to the back to losen the adhesive there. This probably won’t affect the water/dust resistance in normal every day usage. According to Huawei’s footnote* to the IP68 rating I’d suggest to not submerge it anyway and avoid under water photography ;)

*HUAWEI P30 Pro is rated IP68 for splash, water, and dust resistance under IEC standard 60529 and was tested under controlled laboratory conditions. Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance may decrease over time with normal use. Do not attempt to charge a wet HUAWEI P30 Pro. Warranty does not cover liquid damage.

Hi, im interested, how meny LTE antnna this phone have? By specifikation shuld be 4x4MiMO LTE. So is mean 4 LTE antennas? :)

negis02 - Yanıt

Hi

Like the comment of the person before me I am interested particularly in the antennas used. Do you have any more information from when you did the breakdown? I have been told by Huawei that a 4x4 MIMO is used but they couldn’t give me anymore information, manufacturer? part number specifics? Is the GPS antenna separate? If so what is it and where is it physically situated? This has been puzzling me for awhile now would really love anything you can add

Jenni Tomkinson - Yanıt

Which one is the graphene and vapor chamber? Can you show us? Thanks

Andi - Yanıt

if i buy all those part can i build this phone

ruquan li - Yanıt

Is there any heatpipe ? Like the one in mate 20x? Thanks

Andi - Yanıt

Yes, there is a vapor chamber between the display and the frame. See updated last picture of step 12, the vertical copper element.

Tobias Isakeit -

Philips screws should deserve a RED X. They suck. At this scale, torx is the only way to go. Stop promoting philips.

Blanka - Yanıt

I hear some rattle sound when shake my p30 pro. Comes near camera, top half of back.

Camera and everything works fine, is this normal?

Nimish Pathak - Yanıt

Is that screen construction is waterproof enough? My p30 pro is soak on 20cm water in 5 minutes before I know it that is phone is not waterproof anymore (since I bought it second hand.). I do first Aid for water damage phone using rice, Silica. The phone is normal. However After 3 days the screen phone is going glitch and greenish. I’ve done with disassembly phone. I need to know if there any moisture left in display amoled itself.

Ahmad Fadhil - Yanıt

Did U sell glue for device?

https://ibb.co/5kVpRRW

this glue?

yair - Yanıt

New batteries should already have those pull tabs pre-installed. If you want to fix your current battery you can use regular double-sided adhesive tape or those iPhone adhesive strips.

Tobias Isakeit -

What is in charge for wifi and Bluetooth? Is there a chip or antenna?

Reinhold Lange - Yanıt

my “movement sensor” is broken after my phone felt.. My compass, accelometer and gyroscope seem not working.. Are these all related? Where are they located? on the motherboard or can they be replaced? Thank you very much!

Irian I.J.E. Schropp - Yanıt

Is there any way you can fix a non displaying huawei p30 pro?

Mayeso Chirwa - Yanıt

Very useful. Great job! I need to know what i need to check if the device is showing -32C degrees and constantly pop up a message that the temp is low and might damage the phone and could switch off to prevent it.

I changed the display /new one was with frame/ and i had to move some pats to the new housing. Everything went ok despite the fact i damaged the orange cable from Step 4.

Could this be the problem or i should look somewhere else?

Plamen Valchev - Yanıt

I had the exact problem. Did u find fix for that? Mine is only around -4°C but still, unable to charge..thx

Jurko -

What are black and white coaxial cables?

I cut white one during dissassembly but it seems 4G, Wi-Fi and even GPS is still working without white coax.

alex - Yanıt

The microphone on my p30 pro isn't work, was wondering if the microphone is one the same part as the sim card board?

biggie562 - Yanıt

The microphone is the part I circled on this image.

Arthur Shi -

Thank you soo much!

biggie562 -

I replaced the screen of my p30 pro but when i receive a call i hear the caller very weak.is it necessary to glue the speaker to the screen?is that the problem?

sai b - Yanıt

Did the new screen come with the counterpart for the structure-borne driver already installed (it’s the part marked L2a 931 in this picture. If not you need to transfer and glue it firmly into place on the new display.

Also, make sure there is no debris between this part and the actual structure-borne driver that could affect the sound ( the driver is the part in the bottom of the same picture).

Tobias Isakeit -

Dear ifixit Team,

After switching to a new display, my wi-fi connection is a little weaker than before, but especially the bluetooth range has decreased very much, only half a meter guarantees a fluent music transmission. Do you know what antenna or cable might be the reason for this and what should I purchase to try to fix it? Would appreciate any hint!

okan.koepruelue - Yanıt

Hey Guys, I have a P30 Pro that is not doing any loud speaker sound (so no audible ring sound, music, youtube sound, call on loud speaker), I tried replacing the loudspeaker module but it didn’t work (I will try ordering another loudspeaker to try again, don’t know if the first was working), also tried ordering the daughterboard (with the CHIP) as it looks like it has some kind of filter for the audio right under the conector under the armor (or am I wrong?) but the board came without the armor and anything soldered there.

Any advice on what to test, the audio signal come by the big flat cable? Maybe trying to replace it too?

Already done software reset and even downgrade using huawei software.

Don’t know what else I can try to fix it.

Emerson Jr - Yanıt

I need help with my Huawei p30 some have water damage i live in sweden. I need my Phone in The cort. Please can some one help me.

marbystrand - Yanıt

Very good article, thank you. I dissembled the phone and replaced the sim card reader and antenna hoping it would now read my sim again. This wasn't the fault it seems. Would it perhaps be the motherboard?
