Why hello there.
My name is Scott, aka Scotty, aka the Ocean King with lots of Seashell Bling (I may or may not have made that last one up...).
I work at iFixit as someone who breaks things and sometimes gets them back together in working order.
I graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo (better known as SLO by just about everyone) and tried to leave SLO. SLO didn't like that and sucked me right back in. Here I am over my favorite place:
I studied Biomedical Engineering and have a soft spot for the human body and electronics (An odd combo, but my mother always told me opposites attract). I've done some cool work in embedded systems that tie into human physiology. It's some pretty neat stuff if I do say so myself.
Outside of ifixit I play around in the outdoors (namely hiking, surfing, backpacking, skiing, and anything fun). I love art. And I have a serious fear of missing out...
I also work as an ocean lifeguard at Avila Beach during the summer! If you are ever there, swing by the tower and say hello! Here are some of my fellow lifesavers after paddling from Avila to Pismo:

"Damaged screen display cable. Is it easy to replace myself?" için yanıtHey Samuel! With any repair you run the risk of damaging something in the process. It looks like you were the victim of that with this display cable, and you run the risk of damaging something if you swap the cable. That being said, I think you have it in you to do this repair! Especially since you have already damaged something, I think that you will be extra careful this time around. So I opened up a newer iMac and saw the other end of this cable was not shrouded in tape, which means it is a quick fix. Before purchasing any parts, try to investigate and see what both ends of the cable look like. If it is easy to access the port on the display, I say purchase the part and get this repair done! If it is buried in tape, do a little investigating to see if it is easy to uncover the port. If it looks like it might be a huge ordeal, then letting the repair pro's do the repair isn't the worst idea. I think this is the part on Newegg too: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...-GoogleMKP-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleMKP...
"Screen broken but not cracked?" için yanıtHi Laurence! It sounds like this could be many different things. It was good to check the LCD cable connection! That is a good starting place. I would check all of the display connectors (any digitizer and LCD cable connectors). If these all seem to be seating well, go ahead and get the magnifying glass to see if all of the pins on the connectors seem to be intact. If one of the pins on the connectors( the little gold lines) seem out of whack, then that could be causing the problem (and is unfortunately a pretty tough fix if you aren't familiar with soldering techniques). If all the connectors seem like they are working, I suspect the drop could have damaged the LCD itself. I imagine you do not have access to an extra LCD, but if you can swap the LCD's to test a different one, you will get an answer. It is also possible that the board was damaged, but I suspect the LCD. You can probably track down a replacement LCD! Let us know what new things you find on your hunt. Good luck!
"Screen dead and getting hot after connecting the battery" için yanıtHey Tomas Kelement, Short answer: Your phone can still perform certain functions with a damaged logic board. Longer answer: The fact that your phone is getting hot screams to me that there is a short. That short can be in many different places. If possible, open the phone and take a close look to see if there is any visible damage on the logic board. The fact that the entire phone is bent is a little scary, as bending a circuit board can easily result in a short. Try disconnecting the display assembly and connecting the battery. If the phone STILL gets hot, then you know the display assembly isn't where the short is. I sincerely doubt this will be the case. You can progressively try to pinpoint the issue this way. I think the starting place should be to closely visually inspect the logic board though. Let us know if you have any luck finding an answer!
"PC don't recognize phone when using USB" için yanıtHey Lekisha Burrows, Unfortunately there is no magic software that can help you connect with the phone. I would try Brook Smith's suggestion and see if that helps. If it does not, you may need to try and download software that helps your phone talk to your computer (this software is called a driver). I found some websites that link to Blu Studio 6.0 drivers, but will hold off on linking them to you in order to find how reliable these downloads are. You are not alone with this problem. Others have suggested checking the USB port too. You can see that suggestion here: USB Device Not Recognized. Keep us up to date!
"What is the part number of the power supply?" için yanıtHey Felipe Olivares! I was looking at the guide for the A1302 Airport Time Capsule to see how they removed the power supply. After looking around for specific model information and checking the A1302 guide, I saw that Delta made the power supply. Not only did they make it, but they provided the model information on the power supply. I would suggest opening your A1409 Airport Time Capsule (if you haven't already) and seeing if the information you seek is available on the power supply. Let us know if you are successful!
"others can't hear me well when talking except with speaker on" için yanıtHello there jimhabermehl! Your phone has several microphones that it uses to pick up sound and send it to the folks on the other end of the line. Do you have a phone case? A common issue is that a phone case can obstruct the microphone and make it hard for sound to get through the case. Another possibility is the microphone could be dirty. Maybe try spraying the bottom of the phone (near the lightning connector) with compressed air to try and free some of that dust from the device. It is also said that updating your iOS can help in certain instances. Let us know if that helps solve the issue! Our awesome community will probably also provide some good insight. Cheers!
"My iMac wont turn on" için yanıtHey Leo! Do you per chance know the model number of your iMac? Do you know if it has the i5 processor or the i3 processor? In any case, it likely will not matter. The fact that things are starting to boot up but your screen is completely black makes me thing you may have a display cable that is still disconnected. This can easily happen, and is luckily an easy fix! You will just need to pop off the display again (this isn't that easy, but you've already done it once before!), and check the connections of the display cables. Here is a guide that will help you know exactly which cables to look at: iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2389 Hard Drive Replacement Look at steps 5,6, and 7 Let us know if this fixes it! If not we can continue to troubleshoot! Best of luck.
"I put penny wheels on my skateboard and it wont turn" için yanıtSo the question is, will it not turn when you stomp on the tail pad? or does it not turn when you lean into the board? Either way, this is an easy fix! If you aren't turning when you lean into the board, you need to loosen the kingpin nut on your trucks (http://www.veniceskateshop.com/pages/ska...-truck-anatomy). Turn the nut left using a socket wrench or a special skate tool. If your wheels aren't spinning, and you are having trouble turning by the stomp pad, check the bearings! The bearings are the little metal doughnuts within your wheel. Did you get new bearings when you bought new wheels? If not, maybe get some new bearings. Best of luck!!!
"Scanner and copier not working." için yanıtIf there is no paper in the feeder, this could likely be solved by the old "turn it off and on again". If there are no mechanical issues, then resetting the device firmware could free it from the nonexistent "paper jam." If this doesn't work, there is likely something going on with the mechanical bits. Here is the manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03... and if you straight to page 126, there are some handy steps as to how to make sure the feeder and carriage are free. Go through the steps, then reset, and I bet all will be well. Best of luck!
"Why is my MacBook not charging and the charger not lighting up?" için yanıtharman212, There are likely a couple possibilities as to why you are having this problem. Ramen noodles likely have many things that, when dried up, will prevent a good connection between charger and port. For example, if you used one of those flavor packets, the solutes from the packet could still be on the charging port. I would examine your charging port and try to figure out how dirty it is. If it appears that "chicken flavor powder" is still on the ports, it may help to remove it. Make sure you power off all of your equipment before doing this though! Might as well play it safe. The other possibility, and this may be more likely, is that you damaged the internal components. If the laptop was running and you had liquid hit some of the IC's, you could have damaged/destroyed something important. You may need to replace some stuff! If that is the case, you are in the right place... MacBook Air 13" Repair Good Luck! Scott
