My beloved Note 8 (GT-N5100) - [cracked screen and all] failed to boot; I also couldnt factory reset-it using the multi-button press. It would however charge and show the 100% battery icon. It otherwise appeared to be "bricked". I did the remove battery and press power for 60 second trick - and behold - its back to life. That they didnt have stock for TabS2 at my local store - casued me to Google and find this site. Saved me the price of a new phablet! Take note of the observation made by @henriknaslund regarding the "Safe Unit" when disconnecting battery. I wonder in fact if that "Safe Unit" was the root cause of my problem. Disapointed also to find that only 6 of the 8 battery screws were fitted - presumably by Samsung workshop when I had the mother board replaced 12 months ago!
Thanks @henriknaslund for note on the "Safe Unit" I succesfully managed to hold it in pace with a little basic sticky tape. Did the job.
