He might be thinking of Taos. I've worked with their color and light sensors before, and the pictures do look like their product. But then again, a 6-pin SOIC encased in in optical epoxy could be any company.
Yup, you're right. Didn't cross-check everything. Still wonder why the FCC version gets that chip and connector populated if they didn't put a cam on theirs. It could be just a debug port for non-production versions.

Heyyyyy, the FCC got a camera with theirs! And they've got the BGA chip and connector populated with it. Apple's holding out on us! They probably wanted to save something for version 2. Here's from Step 1 of the FCC pictures. And Step 18 shows the camera loud and clear.
Can anyone measure the pad pitch of the BGA? If it's 0.50mm, it would fit the SMSC USB3311 or another in-family. The 24-pin connector there would support the 12 signals for ULPI to a camera.
