I'm an iFixit Technical Writer.
I have been working at iFixit since I was a freshman at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. I am now working on my fourth year studying aerospace engineering, and have been working at iFixit the entire time. I came in to the iFixit family in 2011 as a technical writer and have been making guides ever since. I am also largely involved with the University Technical Writing Program which teaches college students how to write awesome documentation and take really cool pictures, like us.

But in actuality, I am a self-proclaimed Grammar Nazi who cannot read through a document, webpage, or FaceBook status without evaluating it. That being said, if there is anything incorrect in this About Me section, just ignore it; nobody's perfect.
I like sports.
A lot—like a lot, a lot. I have been a die-hard Oakland Athletics fan since I was 5, and am ready to see them go back to the World Series…it has to happen, eventually. I also enjoy playing pretty much any sport. Baseball, basketball, soccer, football, racquetball, tennis, volleyball, you name it, I'll play it. I even love those sports that people like to argue about whether they are sports or not. Bowling and ping-pong are two of my fortes.
I wear a lot of hats.
Like I said earlier, I really like baseball. Since I started wearing baseball caps as a youngen, I have not been able to stop. I feel naked without one on, so if you ever see me, there is a very good chance I will have a baseball hat on. I started collecting nice flat-bill baseball hats when I was a Junior and Senior in high school, and I have about 25 of them (pictures to come). This does not include the 50+ hats that I accrued in my life before that time. So yes, the answer to your question "Do you always wear a hat?" is "yes" (though the slow transition into the professional world has reduced the ratio of days/week in which I wear a hat from roughly 6.9 to 6).

"Faulty Vibrator and Proximity Sensor?" için yanıtHey Jeremy, To preface this, I do not have a good solution to your problem, unfortunately. Hopefully a better answer gets posted on this ASAP. I have not heard of this problem occurring, but something similar has happened to me. I had a similar incident with my iPhone 5 a few months back. It could record voice memos, but would not register my voice when I made phone calls. Even weirder it would not play back voice memos and the headphone jack stopped working, altogether. I took it into Apple and was (get this) 6 days late for them to replace it. I tried replacing so many things, to the point that I swapped my lobo into a completely different device. Turned out it was something on the logic board. Saddest of days. The summary of this is that I would recommend swapping your customer's logic board into a working device (if you have a bench or some sort of working 5s). That will at least eliminate logic board as the cause. If the lobo works in the new device, start swapping out individual components until...
"How About Combining iPhone 3GS with Newer Parts?" için yanıtHey Mishel! Thanks for asking! We always love to hear about people trying new things with their devices. Unfortunately, it is not possible to install the iPhone 5's camera into the iPhone 3GS. The cameras are different sizes, physically, and the connectors are in different locations. If you are looking for a camera upgrade, the difference in camera quality between the 3GS and the 4S is considerable, and you can usually find a cheap iPhone 4S on eBay. Some of them are really cheap, and may only need a simple repair. Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes! Jake
"How do I repair a blank but not cracked screen?" için yanıtHey Crystal, It sounds like the display assembly was simply not attached correctly. The connector must be installed perfectly, so check out this guide to make sure you attached everything correctly. You might want to consider spraying some compressed air over both parts of the connector to make sure that no dust or dirt gets in the way. Hope this helps! Good luck!
"Loud fan after dropping the MBP on tiles" için yanıtHey Jayphen, Before you open the device up, I would recommend taking it in to Apple, since it is so new, and just letting them know the fan is making weird noises and see if they will replace anything for free. It can't hurt to check, and it could save you some time and money.

"water damaged iPhone 4, replaced dock and battery, won't turn on?" için yanıtHey Alex, It sounds like you have tried all of the main fixes for water damage. Unfortunately, since the dock connector and battery replacement did not fix your problem, it is highly likely that the water caused a short on the logic board, effectively frying it. Did you happen to notice any burn marks on the logic board while you were inside it? You can open the device back up and check to make sure that you reattached all of the connectors correctly, but in the end it sounds like you will have to replace the logic board. Before doing so, you might as well take it into an Apple Store and seeing if they will replace it for free. It is a long shot, but I have had some luck on them replacing a water-damaged device before. Hope this helps. Good luck!
"Front camera stuck on shutter after LCD replacement" için yanıtHey Sue, This has been a common problem amongst iPhone repair enthusiasts! Since the camera does not actually have a physical shutter, this problem is resulting from the phone not being able to access the front camera (also note that this is the front camera, not the rear, that you are having a problem with). The closed shutter view is the phone trying to access the camera. Chances are, when you replaced the LCD, the front-facing camera was not properly re-inserted. Your best bet is probably to follow this guide to open up the device and make sure the camera and its connector are seated properly. Give this a try, and check to make sure that everything is in place! It might be beneficial to spray some compressed air into the front facing camera's connector and socket to make sure there is no dust or dirt interfering with the connection. Good luck! Hope this helps!
"Retina fans mounted in normal MacBook Pro" için yanıtHey Sebastian, Apple has been revamping their internal cooling systems a lot over the last few MacBook iterations. Because of this, the fans and connectors have been changing each time. Unfortunately, you cannot put a Retina fan inside of an older MB Pro. Check out where the retina fan's connector is versus where the Unibody's connector is. Hope this helps!
"My iPhone 4 got soaked, dried out, but will not power up" için yanıtHey Shellie, So first, a little background info on water damage. When liquid gets inside a device, it does not damage it. The problems occur when power runs through the logic board. If any of the water bridges some of the traces on the logic board, it may cause the logic board to shirt circuit, effectively frying the entire device. Since your device was running while soaked, it sounds like the logic board was probably fried, especially since it turned off on its own and does not respond to being plugged in. Unfortunately, this means that in order to fix your device, you will probably need to replace the logic board. Before doing that, though, I would recommend just taking it in to an Apple store and seeing if they might replace it. They replaced a MacBook Pro logic board for me one time after I spilled liquid on it and effectively fried it. Hope this helps! Good luck!
