Hi! My name is Alex Shacoski and I’m an Electrical Engineering major at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. I am currently switching majors to Civil Engineering, but I have always been interested in STEM. I first became interested in engineering through Lego building when I was younger. I loved being able to create new designs and being part of something so hands on. This interest grew through high school when I really started taking an interest in my math and science classes. This paired with an interest in circuits lead me to become an Electrical Engineer major. I’m not quite sure of my future career at the moment, but I know that I love being in a field where I can actively work on advancing technology in order to better the lives of others. My goal is to learn lots while at Cal Poly and apply that knowledge while doing something I love.
One project that was a lot of fun and hard work was a circuit project in my IME 156 class. We used solder to build a circuit board and wired it to certain LEDs and a microphone in order to create a black music box that flashed different colors and lit up in time with the music played.
I have never repaired a device before, but I am very excited to get started on this project and learn more about the insides and making of our Lenovo ThinkPad. I also fully support iFixit’s mission to increase awareness about the right to repair, and decrease the ever-increasing amount of E-waste in our world.
