If both the screens are not responding... check the on board connection sockets with a magnifying glass... maybe they got damaged when you pushed in the connector for the new screen...
Thanks John... I did buy a replacement PSU... though was not as cheap and had to get it all the way from US... but was worth it and works fine now... regards
FINALLY I FOUND A SOLUTION... Posting this as a help for someone who might be stuck in the same situation... Somehow my keyboard mapping has got corrupted and since I could not find a direct way to edit the keymapping for Mac I used a superb software called KeyRemap4MacBook and it has remapped my key settings, over-riding the defaults in my Macbook and now I can happily work on my macbook. It seems that somehow there is a hardware error and my Left Shift key is not working but all the rest now work properly...
When re-assembling, put the left-most screw before seating the earphone jack, it's easier to screw in, and also easier to adjust the rest of the assembly.
I reassembled the macbook A1342 using this guide and everything is perfect, except that if I shut down the computer and power it up after 1hour or so, I have to press the power button a few times before it starts. What could I have gone wrong? I checked the magsafe connector and it seems to be firmly seated. :(
