2011 works with a 2012 and vice versa, "but". Typing this on a 2012 MacBook Pro unibody 15 with a 2011 Unibody 15" high res matt display and top case. The keyboard failed on mine, so I swapped the display and top case (and went for the upgrade along the way as a toasted 2011 model wasn't much more than a top case). The "but" is that the connector is slightly different. The wiring is identical, but you have to bend (not break!) the tabs at either side of the connector on the logic board, which is a delicate job. The connector then slots in and locks into place as expected.

Yes you are right. The cog should be fixed to the shaft and turn with it; that's went wrong with mine. You can find replacements online.

It's held in by about 30 TINY TINY screws, and you have to remove the logic board to get to it. I've done this on a 2009 model and it's not a very fun job!

Hi, mine has done the same - it might be the bushes? I don’t know for sure; we replaced ours. However; it’s up the loft, so if lockdown carries on for much longer, expect a bush replacement guide :)

I’d definitely make sure to use food grade grease as the gearbox seal isn’t necessarily perfect. The gearbox on my machine above is full of cake crumbs from over the decades. Also, If you use the anything too viscous it will find its way into the mixing bowl.

I’m not sure on the exact spec for the grease, but make sure you get Food Grade grease - it isn’t a sealed unit. Googling Kenwood Food Grade grease finds a few sellers - I can’t remember what I used exactly but it was definitely food grade grease, not kenwood specific though.

I’m not entirely sure, but it sounds like the gearbox (or another part of the drive) may need greasing? The grease can dry up over time and it would lead to that.
