Display Settings Misconfigured
There is a chance that the settings are making the screen appear off when it is not. Press and hold fn+F5. This should turn up the brightness in the event the monitor is simply too dark to see.
Try the fn+F8 key. This switches the display mode if the computer was trying to display to a different output.
Extra Monitor Interference
Try using an HDMI cable to an external monitor to see if it can display. See if the fn+F8 command to toggle display modes. If it works on the external monitor but not the in-built one, then that means the problem is a power issue or faulty connection.
If you were already connected to an external monitor try disconnecting to see if the display returns to the onboard monitor. Sometimes a monitor may quit outputting to its default monitor if another one is detected.
Battery Issues

Programs that are not visible can be seen by opening task manager (ctrl+alt+delete). Click on a task you do not need and click on it then press end task.
You may want to consider uninstalling or disabling some of these programs so they will not automatically run on startup. Microsoft OS features like Cortana/Xbox can be disabled through Settings>Privacy>Background and third party programs can be uninstalled through Settings>Apps & Features
