My Screen Is Black
I cannot see what I am typing or if my laptop is on.
If you are having trouble seeing anything on your laptop screen, it may be that your LCD screen is faulty. This may happen accidentally in the course of running the computer. Laptop screens may be damaged by hitting or damaging the screen. To learn how to replace the LCD screen, follow this replacement guide.
Brightness May be Dimmed
If your display is enabled and you are still having troubles viewing the screen, your laptop's brightness may be dimmed. If this is the case, you can turn the brightness up on the display, press the “Fn” key which located to the bottom left while simultaneously pressing the Left key to brighten the screen.
My Laptop Is Overheating
Heat is excessively building up inside my laptop.
Accumulation Of Dust
Sometimes, laptops may overheat due to an accumulation of dust, pet hair, or other small particles that can get trapped in the fan. If this is the case, it is a fixable problem that can be solved by clearing out the fan. The laptop may have a bottom panel in which you can unscrew to get access to the internals. Before you open anything, power down the laptop, remove the battery, and unscrew the panel (if there is one) to get to the internals of the laptop. For this, we recommend using compressed air, known as canned air. Ensure that you are blowing the dust out of the laptop, not just moving it around inside of it. Be careful when blasting the laptop fan, if you make the fan spin too fast, you can damage it! Blow from different angles, using short blasts of the canned air.
If the laptop continues to overheat despite being cleaned out, there may be a problem with your fan. This may occur if there has been damage to the fan, too much dirt has built up, or the fan has just gotten old. To replace your fan, you can follow this guide. A new fan will help keep your computer cool and functioning.
Device Is Running Slowly
It takes an abnormally long time to load pages.
Faulty Internet Connection
Some issues in loading pages may result from a faulty internet connection that may be slow, or irregular. If your computer is taking a long time to load pages that require an internet connection, there may be a problem with your internet. There may be too many people on the WiFi connection which may slow it down. You may also have a slow internet speed. These problems would have to be addressed by fixing the internet connection rather than the laptop itself.
Another possible issue is that you may have bad or not enough RAM. This means your computer may not have enough memory for normal or intensive memory functions. Your computer may crash, beep or not be able to complete normal tasks. Without enough RAM, your laptop may have issues saving files, upgrading software, and more. To install RAM on your computer, follow this guide.
Device Will Not Power On
My computer is not responding to attempts to power on.
Failed AC Adapter
The AC adpapter is the large block attached to your laptop charger. If this adapter is not functioning, your laptop will not be able to charge. This may be the reason your laptop is not turning on. To check if this is the problem, make sure your adapter is plugged into a working outlet. When the AC adapter is properly plugged in, a light on the adapter should be on. If you cannot see this light, then there may be a problem with your adapter. Consider purchasing a replacement adapter if this is the case.
If your AC adapter is functional and your laptop is still not powering on, it may be that your battery is not working. Make sure your adapter is plugged in and connected to the laptop and allow time for the laptop to gain charge. If the light on your adapter is on, but your laptop will still not power on, the problem may lay in your battery. The battery may have to be replaced which you can do here
My Computer Does Not Have Enough Storage
I am unable to save new data to my computer.
Faulty Hard Drive
If you seem to be running out of storage, you may need to replace your hard drive. To do so, you will first need to backup any data that you want to keep on a Windows DVD. After backing up your data, turn off the laptop and physically remove the hard drive. To install the new hard drive, just put it in exactly where the old one was. Turn your computer back on and replace the data that you backed up. A more thorough guide to replacing your hard drive can be found here.
Other Storage Options
If you are having issues with lack of storage, you may be interested in using an online service that can provide a place for you to store documents, pictures, and more. These sites provide storage that does not take up room on your hard drive or computer but rather stored online. Options for storage include sites such as iCloud, which typically comes with the use of an iPhone, and Google Drive.
