Computer won’t charge

Computer battery won't charge up when plugged in

Computer isn't plugged in correctly

Can be diagnosed by seeing if the cable is securely plugged into the outlet.

  1. Be sure that the charging cable is plugged securely into a working outlet.
  2. Be sure the charging cable is inserted into the computer correctly.

Adapter isn't plugged in correctly

See if the part of the cable that plugs into the wall is connected completely to the ‘box-like’ adapter.

  1. Make sure the cable is plugged into the adapter properly.

Battery doesn't last long

If the computer does seem to charge at first but dies very quickly after disconnected from the power cable.

Computer keeps overheating

Computer is really hot or blue screen

Fan is dusty

A fan that is clogged with dust is unable to circulate air properly. This means that the computer will eventually overheat.

  1. Make sure computer is off.
  2. Begin removing the ten screws on the bottom of the computer. Note: Be sure not to lose the screws and remember which screws go where.
  3. Unscrew the seven screws that are holding the fan in place.
  4. Unplug fan from motherboard.
  5. Remove the fan gently from the motherboard.
  6. Shoot compressed air into the fan to clear dust particles from the fan.
  7. Put the fan back into place, plug it back onto the motherboard, and put all the screws back into place.
  8. Place the bottom of the computer back into place and screw it back in.

Inside of computer is dusty

If the inside of a computer is dusty the additional dust adds a layer of insulation, as well as blocking airflow that will cause a computer to run hot.

  1. Make sure computer is off.
  2. Begin removing the ten screws on the bottom of the computer. Note: Be sure not to lose the screws and remember which screws go where.
  3. Shoot compressed air onto dusty areas of the laptops internal components.
  4. Place the bottom of the computer back into place and screw it back in.

Fan is broken/doesn't turn on

If you cannot hear the fan spooling up when the computer is turned on, the fan is most likely not working.

Computer won’t turn on

When power button is pressed the computer won't turn on

Computer needs to be recharged

Computer won’t turn on when the on/off button is pressed, but the computer is not connected to a power source.

  1. To recharge a computer plug in the power cable

Power button needs to be held

  1. Some computers need the power button held to turn on. Try holding the power button for a few seconds

Screen isn't functioning correctly

Blue screen, screen is spotty, pixels are discolored/broken.

  1. There is a small icon on the bottom right of the inside of the computer of a small lightbulb. See if this light is on.
  2. If this light is on or the computer sounds like it's on, then it may be a screen issue.

Display isn’t working

The laptop display isn't showing anything

Laptop needs to be turned on

  1. There is a small icon on the bottom right of the inside of the computer of a small lightbulb. See if this light is on.
  2. If this light is on then it’s probably a display issue.

Screen cable may be loose

If the screen cable is loose, it may just need to be resecured, saving a costly screen replacement.

  1. Make sure computer is off.
  2. Begin removing the ten screws on the bottom of the computer. Note: Be sure not to lose the screws and remember which screws go where.
  3. Check to see if the cable is correctly attached to the motherboard.
  4. Place the bottom of the computer back into place and screw it back in.

Can’t connect to wifi

The computer won't connect to local wifi

Wifi button is in off position

  1. Check if the WIFI symbol on the top left of the keyboard is lit up green. If it is not, press the F2 button.

Router isn't functioning correctly

  1. Make sure the router is turned on.
  2. Use an ethernet cable to connect directly to the router. If the Internet is still not working, then the problem is the router.
  3. If the internet works while the ethernet cable is attached, then the problem lies within the laptop.
