If the Canon Pixma MG7720 is not being detected by the device that you are using, follow this troubleshooting guide.
Improper or outdated driver
A device basically uses a driver to operate the printer, and with a malfunctioning driver or one that is not fully updated, issues can occur with the link between the printer and device. If you believe that this could be the cause, follow these steps to resolve the issue:
- Restart both the printer and device for one minute.
- Check the driver by going into device settings, then going to device manager and right clicking the printer to “update driver.”
- Delete the printer from the computer, then reinstall, which will lead to the driver being redownloaded.
Wifi/USB connection Problem
There are a few connection issues that can be preventing your device from detecting your printer in which case you would need to check for a few things.
Possible underlying causes for the symptom:
- A poor WiFi connection is the most common problem, in which it would be best to first restart your device, and then update the printing driver if need be (see prior instructions).
- If this doesn’t work, use a USB cable to connect directly to your device. Check the USB port for physical damage, or run a hardware diagnostic test to locate the problem.
- Something else you might have to clear/restart is the print spooler, which is software that manages the printing process.
- On a Mac, once connected with the printer, go to system preferences, reset the printing system (which will delete the printer), and then reconnect with it again.
- On windows, open up the services page under your printer and find the file that says “print spooler”, and restart it.
Printer firmware issues
Possible underlying causes for the symptom: Generally, the Canon Pixma Mg7720 has automatic firmware updates, but if the system does not update and has an outdated firmware; the printer could malfunction and not be detected by the device. The firmware can be updated by going through these steps on the printer:
- Power on the printer and go to the “Setup” menu
- Scroll until you reach the “Device Settings”
- Under “Device Settings,” click on “Firmware Update” to check for any updates and download if applicable
