Can't Connect to a Wireless Network
You are having trouble connecting to the WiFi network or internet in your home.
Too Far from Access Point
WiFi has a limited range so you maybe trying to use your device form a distance that exceeds the range of either the router you are using or the Mini 10. Try getting closer to the router and see if that makes a difference.
WiFi is Disabled within Settings
The WiFi card maybe disabled within Windows which could be the reason why you are having problems connecting to the internet. Within Windows click on the Start button > Control Panel > System and Security > Device Manager. You should see a menu and in menu look for Network Adapters. Click on the "+" symbol to open the drop down menu. Right-click on the wireless adapters and, if disabled, click Enable.
Other Solutions Didn't Work
The problem could originate from a faulty WiFi card within the computer. To resolve this issue you would need to replace the WiFi card. For instructions on how to do that than follow our guide on how to it. (link somewhere in the sentence to be directed to the guide.)
Black Screen
Your computer screen is black when turned on.
Video Distortion
Screen blackness may be caused by video issues within your laptop. To check for this you need to test the laptop LCD, Liquid Crystal Display, within the System Setup (BIOS). First power down and power back up your computer and press F2. From here check for any lines, distortion, or any other issues. Be sure to run the LCD BIST test also, which looks for LCD issues outside of the operating system.
Brightness is Set Low
Be sure to make sure to adjust the brightness on the LCD screen when the laptop is running. Some times the screen will appear to be dark and black, when in reality the screen's brightness is set very low.
Battery is Not Holding Power
If the battery is not holding power when not connected to an outlet this will cause the screen to not boot up and stay black. The battery is not supplying enough power to the computer since it can not hold a charge.
Graphics Card is not Functioning
To check for possible software or video card problems test with an external monitor. Whether the video appears and seems to be ok on the external monitor then your graphics card is functioning. If no video is displayed then check for LED diagnostic, beep codes and run the LCD BIST test to see if the problem lies within the LCD panel.
Overheating
When using your Inspiron Mini 10 overheating can become a problem because it is packed with heat producing transistors.
Blocked Fan and Vents
Over heating problems can be reduced by blowing compressed air through the venting system of your PC. This helps remove and dust that could be blocking air from flowing through and cooling your PC.
Not on a Hard Flat Surface
When using your laptop be sure to make sure you place it on a hard flat surface like a table or book. Don't place on thick cloth or carpet since this kind of surface blocks air from entering into the fan and vent. You can also put a small book or item under your computer's battery when sitting at your desk. This slight tilt allows more air to flow under the laptop, keeping it significantly cooler. Be sure to ensure that the book is not blocking the bottom fan hole.
Unoptimized Software
To help resolve overheating issues you can use the software program that already exists on your PC. This software controls the speed of the processor and screen brightness and measures your PC's core temperatures. You can also use power saving features, make sure to only load needed software and your PC is malware free.
Computer Will Not Power On
The device does not respond when trying to power on.
Defective Power Adapter
Unplug the adapter and check to see if there is any physical damage to the power adapter and cords. If there is no visible damage, check to see if the power cord is plugged in properly, both in the outlet and in the adapter. The indicator light on the (original) power adapter turns green when plugged into an outlet. If there is still no response, try another outlet to rule out the possibility of a defective outlet. If this does not work, your adapter may be faulty. Consider replacing the adapter.
Defective Battery
Your device runs when the power adapter is plugged in but the device turns off soon after you unplug it. Check to ensure the battery is properly mounted. If it is, remove the battery and run the device using only the adapter. If the device runs, this may indicate that your battery is not holding a charge, and you may have a bad battery. Consider replacing the battery.
Defective Power (DC-IN) Jack
The power jack, where the adapter plugs into the device, directs a steady source of power to the motherboard. The jack can deteriorate from frequent plugging and unplugging, causing it to fail. If the power jack is faulty, the motherboard will not receive power. Consider replacing the power jack.
Defective Motherboard
The light on the power adapter is green, the battery and power jack have been replaced, but the device still won’t turn on. This may indicate that something is wrong with the motherboard. Consider replacing the motherboard.
Unresponsive Touchpad
Touchpad does not sense your touch or has irregular cursor movement.
Dirty Touchpad
Using a soft cloth and screen cleaner, wipe down the touchpad. Also, make sure your hands are clean and dry because this could affect the touchpad.
Strained Central Processing Unit
The computer may run slow because too many programs are running. If you can, close all programs and restart the computer. If not possible, manually restart the computer by pressing down the power button until the screen turns black. Wait two minutes before turning it back on. After the computer restarts, check if the issue is still existent.
Jammed Touchpad
Carefully remove the touchpad and clean under it, making sure nothing is under the touchpad to prevent it from properly working.
Reinstalling Touchpad
