Device Will Not Stay Mounted

The sticky cup is not sticky and the device will not stick to the windshield.

Unclean Surface

Before trying to mount the device, make sure the surface where you are mounting it is clean. Any dust or dirt could prevent the sticky cup from sticking. Clean the surface with warm water or surface wipes and let it air dry.

Unclean Sticky Cup

Gently detach the sticky cup from the main device. Clean the sticky cup with a little bit of dish soap and warm water, and then let it air dry. Remember to make sure that the mounting surface is clean before mounting your device.

Device Will Not Turn On

The device does not appear to have power.

Car is Not On

Some cars might not turn the battery on until the keys are turned. Check if the keys are in the ignition and the battery is on.

Disconnected Power Cord

Check if the SmartCord is connected to both the device and to the car's cigarette lighter port. If the SmartCord plug in is not fully pushed into the cigarette port on the car the device will not receive power.

Display Can't be Seen

The screen is too dim, has distorted images, or is blank

Poor Power Connection

Ensure the SmartCord is securely connected to the device. Try restarting the device by pressing Power and then disconnecting and reconnecting the SmartCord.

Brightness Settings

The Escort Passport Max2 has a built in sensor that automatically adjusts the display brightness to its surrounding lighting conditions. When pressing buttons your screen may temporarily dim. However, if the display is continuously dark but you are still able to hear audible alerts your device may have been set to Dark mode. To change this setting press the button labeled BRT and adjust the brightness to your desired level. As a last resort you may want to try restoring the factory defaults. To restore press and hold the SEN and BRT buttons while powering on the device. A “Restored” message should appear on the display.

Software Needs Updating

Software that needs to be updated may effect the efficiency of the device, including its display brightness. To access device updates you will need to register your device at escortinc.com. Once registered you will begin to receive email notifications when updates are available. To update the software connect the mini end of the USB data cable to the Escort Passport Max2 and then plug the standard USB connector end of the cable to your computer. You will then need to log on to www.escortinc.com/download and follow the instructions online.

Damaged Display

If none of these solutions seem to fix the display, or if the display is blank or has distorted images, it is possible that the screen is damaged and needs to be replaced. Please see our guide for screen replacement here.

Device Issuing False Alerts

The Escort Passport Max2 beeps at same location each day.

AutoLearn Turned Off

Reoccurring false alerts are more likely to happen while driving in areas where radar motion sensors are being used (e.g. automatic door openers or alarms systems). To avoid these reoccurring false alerts turn on the AutoLearn feature by pressing and holding the buttons labeled MRK and SEN at the same time. Once "Preferences" appears on the display, use the MRK button to move through categories until you find AutoLearn. You can then use the Volume + and - to adjust the setting from OFF to ON. To finalize the selection wait a few seconds without pressing buttons until “Completed” appears on the display.

NOTE: The AutoLearn feature functions by analyzing both the location and frequency type of each alert in order to “learn” where false alerts may be occurring. In order to “learn" the Escort Passport Max2 will need to encounter the false alert approximately three times.

Radar Sensitivity Setting

The Escort Passport Max2 comes with various radar sensitivity which include: Highway, Auto and AutoX. The Highway radar sensitivity setting will pick up all radar signals. To avoid potential false alerts change sensitivity setting to Auto which will analyze each incoming signals to minimize false alerts. Press the button makred SEN to adjust to preferred radar sensitivity setting.

Hard to Hear Alerts

Alert sounds are too quiet, inconsistent in volume or completely inaudible.

Volume Turned Down

The volume may have inadvertently been turned down. Press and hold the + button to increase volume to preferred level. Your preferred volume level will be stored and saved even after the device has been turned off.

Mute Settings

Ensure the Mute button has not been pressed. Try pressing the Mute button on the device or toggling the Mute button on the SmartCord. If this does not resolve the issue check to see if AutoMute setting is on. AutoMute is a feature that alerts you to a radar encounter and then automatically reduces its volume to keep you informed without the annoyance of a continuous full-volume alert. To disable AutoMute press and hold both the MRK and SEN buttons until "Preferences" appears on the display. Press the MRK button to scroll through the categories to find AutoMute. Then press the Volume + or - to change setting from ON to OFF. To complete this change, simply wait a few seconds without pressing any buttons. The unit will display “Completed” to confirm your selection.

Alert Tone Set to Mild

The Alert Tones settings include a Mild option designed to offer a quieter driving experience. However this setting may be too soft for some drivers. Check to see if Alert Tones has been set to Mild by pressing and holding both the MRK and SEN buttons at the same time until "Preferences" appears on the display. Use the MRK button to move through the categories to find Alert Tones. Switch Alert Tones settings to Standard if Mild has been selected. To finalize selection simply wait a moment without pushing any buttons until "Completed" appears on the display.

Damaged Speakers

To determine if the speaker is damaged you can try plugging earphones into the earphone jack to test for sound. If you are able to hear audio from the earphones it is possible that the speakers are damaged. To repair a damaged speaker see our repair guide here.
