GE 7-4836B Alarm Clock AM-FM Clock Radio Troubleshooting

No matter what you do, the alarm clock will not turn on.

Check to make sure the power cord is plugged in. If it is, make sure the display light is on. If the display is not on and the power cord is plugged in, the display or the power cord is faulty. Replace or repair the LCD display using this guide or the power cord using this guide.

If the display only turns on when the power cord is plugged in, then the battery is faulty. Replace the battery or the battery wires using this guide.

The unit will not produce any music.

Check to make sure the alarm clock is switched to the Music tab. If it is not, flip the switch to Music.

If the alarm clock is switched to the Music tab and still doesn't play, make sure the volume is turned up. If you still don't have music, the speaker may be faulty. Replace the speaker using this guide. If the On/Off/Music/Alarm switch does not work, replace or clean it using this guide.

Sound coming from the alarm clock sounds funny.

Check to make sure your volume is not excessively turned up. If it is, turn it down until the sound quality improves.

If the sound is still distorted, make sure the tuning dial is set to the exact station you selected. If the tuning dial is slightly off your desired station, the sound quality degrades. If the tuning dial does not work, replace or clean it using this guide.

If the sound quality does not improve, the speaker is faulty. Ensure the speaker is not obstructed, then repair or replace the speaker using this guide.

Alarm clock gets hot after extended periods of time.

If the alarm clock is hot, turn it off to cool down. The unit may get hot from overuse, playing music at a high volume, or after running for extended periods of time.

The increased heat of the unit is normal with operation. Ensure air flow to alarm clock is sufficient by eliminating anything draped over the alarm clock or anything else impeding the air flow.

I set the alarm, but it did not work.

Check to make sure the volume is turned up and the unit is not turned off. If the volume is low, turn it up, so your alarm will have volume. If you do not hear any static or music, the speaker is faulty. Use this guide to repair or replace it.

Check to make sure the alarm is set to the desired A.M./P.M. setting. If it's not, change the setting to your desired time of day using the A.M./P.M. switch.

If the alarm still does not work, the On/Off/Music/Alarm switch is faulty. Use this guide to repair or replace it.
