When pressing and holding the power button, will your Garmin DriveSmart 71 EX not turn on? Use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.
Power is Completely Drained
If the battery is fully dead, the GPS will not turn on until it has been connected to a proper power source and charged for a period of time. Connect the device to a power source before trying to power on the device again.
Vehicle Power Source is Not Active
If the car is turned off or the power outlet is not supplying power, the device will not receive charge and will not turn on. Ensure that the power source is active to power the device.
Power Button is Not Being Held Long Enough
If the power button is released too quickly, the device may not fully boot. Holding the button for several seconds (or up to 30 seconds for a reset) may be required.
Device is Too Hot or Too Cold
If the device is too hot or too cold, it may not power on or charge properly. Unplug the device and cool or heat the device to a proper temperature before attempting to turn on the device again.
Faulty Mount
If the mount is magnetic and faulty, the device may not receive power even when plugged in. Check if the device powers on without the mount to see if the device can properly charge.
Device is Not Receiving Power from the Cable
If the charger cable is faulty, unplugged, or not the original Garmin cable, the device may not receive charge and will not turn on, and will need to be replaced to properly charge the device.
Internal Hardware Issue
If none of the above resolve the issue, the device may have a hardware issue (battery, display screen, or another internal component) requiring repair. See the device page to find repair guides to replace hardware components here.
