Computer Will Not Power On
Laptop does not show any signs of powering up.
Power Adapter Not Charging
The problem may not be the computer itself, and instead be a problem with the power adapter. Make sure the adapter is plugged in correctly and the charge light is on. If the light is not on, and the adapter is plugged in, then the adapter is faulty. Consider purchasing a new adapter.
Weak Battery Life
Plug your computer in using an adapter that works and the charge light turns on. If the laptop only turns on when the adapter is plugged in, no matter the charging time, then the battery could be at fault. Consider replacing the battery, shown here.
Keyboard/Touchpad is Not Responding
The keys and/or Touchpad is not responding to action given.
Unclean Keys
After use of keys over time, the keys are subjected to become dirty, collecting dirt and grime on, under or around the keys making them difficult to use. Begin with powering down your device and try to remove the key to be able to remove the dirt and clean grime from around the keys using rubbing alcohol and a paper towel or cotton swab. Then, refer back to the guide to put the keys back in place before restarting your device, shown here.
Faulty Keyboard Assembly
If the keyboard seems to be clean and free of damage yet still not responding , the overall keyboard assembly could be damaged, and consider replacing, shown here.
Unclean Touchpad
If the touchpad is having trouble recognizing given gestures, it could be that the touchpad is dirty. Try cleaning the touchpad after powering down your device and then restart it.
Faulty Touchpad Assembly
If the touchpad is clean and fails to notice any given gestures, try drumroll-ing your fingers on the touchpad for ten seconds. If your device continues to show no response, it could result in the overall touchpad assembly. Consider replacing the touchpad on your device.
Screen Frozen and/or Not Responding
The Chromebook had locked up or Froze and is not responding.
Unresponsive Display
If your device has froze and become unresponsive, begin by performing a hard reboot to unlock the device. To do so, start by turning off your device. Next make sure all USB devices and extra media cords are disconnected and removed, including the power adapter and remove the battery. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds before reconnecting the power adapter but not the battery. Now try turning on the device, if it turns on you’re done. If not connect the battery, then try turning on again. If again no response see “Won’t Power On.” If it is notable that the device is on yet still no display response, the LCD screen could be damaged; consider replacing, shown here.
No Sound/ Distorted Sound
The sound is distorted and or nonexistent.
Special Settings
One way to ensure your speaker is not broken is by logging into your chromebook as a guest in the login screen. This will make the chromebook run without any special settings you might have placed. Try to play sound and if it works then in your account you might have altered a setting that is now affecting your sound. Unless you can recall what setting you altered, you might have to reset your chromebook.
Looking at the lower right corner of your screen, access your settings by clicking on your
account picture. A window will appear that will show your audio volume. Ensure that your volume is at its highest setting. If there is a speaker icon with an X on it, click on it to unmute your device. Also ensure that the output of the sound is in the proper device you want it to come out of, either your headphones or your speaker.
Loose Headphone Jack
Sometimes the problem could be fixed by making sure the headphones are completely plugged in. Make sure you hear a click sound when plugging in the headphones into your Chromebook.
Damaged Headphones
Make sure the headphones are actually working. It could seem silly but there might be a wire problem with your headphones that made them stop working. To ensure it’s just a headphone problem plug it into another device and see if sound plays. If no sound is heard then try using different headphones on your Chromebook to see if they work.
Weak Battery Life
Battery is completely charged but doesn’t last as long as it used to.
Short Battery Life
Laptop batteries have a limited lifespan and eventually get weaker over time. To figure out how much lifespan the battery has you could use BatteryBar or any tool that can help test the battery. If the issue is concluded in a faulty battery, consider replacing, shown here .
