Windows OS not Booting Up
The laptop does not boot up to the Windows 10 login screen.
OS encounters a startup error and will not boot
If the Windows 10 operating system encounters a startup error, Windows 10 will automatically boot into the Advanced Startup Option menu. If the computer does not boot into that menu, rapidly hit the “F11” key on your keyboard as soon as the computer is turned on. From that menu, use your cursor to select, “Troubleshoot” and then select “Reset this PC”. You have the option to either “Keep my files” which will keep all your personal files or “Remove everything” which will delete everything and reinstall the operating system to when you first bought the computer.
OS is missing important files
If the Windows 10 operating system detects that there are important missing files, it should automatically launch into “Startup Repair” which will locate where the missing files are and install them. If Windows 10 doesn’t automatically launch into “Startup Repair”, rapidly hit the “F11” key on your keyboard to access the Advanced Startup Option menu. From there, use your cursor to select “Advanced Options”, then select “Startup Repair” to launch the Windows 10 startup repair.
Distorted or Missing Audio
Audio is choppy and unclear.
Audio is missing.
Headphone or Speakers may be plugged in loosely
Check to see if the audio jack is plugged in all the way in the audio jack, a loose plug on common occasion causes distortion in audio. Test audio through multiple devices, if one works and the other does not, one of these devices may be faulty.
Corrupt/Missing Audio Driver
If there is distorted or no audio when listening to the laptop’s speaker there may be something wrong with the audio driver. At the HP support site here, click the “Driver-Audio” tab and download the “Realtek High Definition (HD) Audio Driver” under the tab “Driver-Audio”. Install as necessary, restart the computer, and test your audio afterwards to see if it comes out clear.
Audio is turned off
Make sure the audio is turned up in the bottom right-hand of the screen and the webpage (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer) you’re looking at.
Computer is Overheating
The ventilation on the side of the computer feels too hot.
Computer shuts off unexpectedly when in use
Dust build-up in fan/ventilation
Open up the back cover and carefully wipe surfaces with dust, or blow into the ventilation to remove the dust.
Fan is not running properly without dust
Replace fan.
WI-FI or Ethernet not Connecting
I cannot connect to the internet.
WI-FI/Ethernet drivers corrupted
If the WI-FI is not working properly or at all, your drivers may be corrupted. At the HP support site here, click the “Driver-Network” tab and download the appropriate drivers. Install as necessary, restart the computer, and test your internet to see if it connects.
Outside programs/settings are blocking the WI-FI
Hit the windows key on the bottom left-hand corner of the keyboard. Type in to the search bar, “device manager” and hit the enter key. Under “Network adapters”, right click on “Broadcom… Wi-Fi M.2 Adapter” and select properties. Then power management, uncheck “Allow this computer to turn this device off to save power”.
Restart the computer and see if the computer connects to the internet.
Wifi is not configured in settings correctly
Hit the Windows key on the bottom left-hand corner of the keyboard and type in “network”. After clicking on network, click on “Wifi” on the bar located on the left side of the window. Next, click on “Manage Wifi Settings”. Click on the network you are trying to connect to and click on “forget”. After that, try reconnecting to the network.
My Computer Freezes Randomly
My laptop is freezing randomly.
Computer is currently frozen
Hold down the power button, remove the battery, hold the power button down again for 15 seconds, place battery back in, then turn on the computer.
The OS has been corrupted or has missing files
If Windows 10 doesn’t automatically launch into “Startup Repair”, rapidly hit the “F11” key on your keyboard to access the Advanced Startup Option menu. From there, use your cursor to select “Advanced Options”, then select “Startup Repair” to launch the Windows 10 startup repair.
Battery Running out too Soon
Laptop battery runs out faster than it used to.
Faulty Charger
Replace charger.
Faulty Battery
Turn on battery saver mode in laptop’s power options.
Put laptop to sleep or power down computer.
