HTC Desire Will Not Turn On

The HTC Desire will not power on.

Non-functioning Charger

The charger may have broke and may be not charging the HTC Desire. Usually the stock charger that comes with the HTC Desire is subject to break. The wires in the charger can wear out due to all the movement and use on a day-to-day basis. To test if it is the charger, try charging another device with the charger that came with the HTC Desire. If the charger does not charge a different device, then the Micro USB charger needs to be replaced.

Non-functioning Battery

The power may not turn on because the battery is not working properly. The battery may possibly be dead or even inserted the wrong direction. Try taking out the battery and inserting it properly. The battery may also have outlived its shelf-life and it needs to be replaced.

Non-functioning Charging Port

If the charging cable and battery are both functioning properly the next most obvious problem would be the charging port. If you look into the hole that the charger goes in you will notice a prong sitting in the middle. If this prong is bent, broken or not present you will need to replace the charging port.

The Circuit Board is Broken

If none of the previous items fix the problem the circuit board may be fried. Although this seems to be unlikely that there is absolutely no feedback from a short-circuited motherboard it is not unlikely for the entire circuit board itself to not function at all either due to disconnection from the power source or fried due to water damage.

The SD Card is not Properly Inserted

The SD Card is Full

It is possible that the SD card may have reached its maximum memory. To test if it has reached its maximum memory try deleting a few objects, such as pictures, to be deleted.
