Kindle 7th Generation Troubleshooting

Released October 2014, can be identified by model number WP63GW.

Kindle does not respond to the touch and displays the "no battery" icon.

Though the Kindle has a long battery life, it won't live forever! The Kindle 7th Generation does not come with a battery charger, but if you have not purchased one, any micro USB charger should work. Plug your Kindle in; the Kindle should charge in less than 6 hours according to Amazon.

The problem may not be with the Kindle, and instead be a problem with the charging cord itself. Try charging a familiar device with the same charging cord you used with the Kindle to verify that it functions properly. If the cord cannot charge your other device, it is most likely faulty and a new one should be purchased.

Plug your Kindle in using a charger that you know works. If the Kindle still does not charge, this is a sign of a faulty battery and the battery needs to be replaced.

The Kindle is a relatively simple device in that it does not contain many components. Through process of elimination, faulty parts can be narrowed down easily. If the Kindle does not turn on after the previous steps, it is likely that the motherboard needs to be replaced.

The Kindle does not respond to touch; display remains the same.

The Kindle 7th Gen.'s touch capability is made possible by infrared LED lights around the border of the screen. Blocking these lights will make it difficult for the Kindle to sense your touch. Use a soft cloth and designated electronic screen cleaner to clean the screen, and make sure there is nothing blocking the screen edges!

It is possible the Kindle will not respond if the battery is too low. Plug in and charge your Kindle.

Sometimes all a machine needs is a good restart to get it functioning like it is supposed to. Unplug your Kindle if it is currently charging and reboot your Kindle by holding the power button on the bottom of the device for 30 seconds.

The "touch screen" sensation is created by a grid of infrared LED lights and receptors above the display screen. When your finger breaks the grid at a certain point, a "touch" is registered in the device. It is possible that the circuit board in charge of this function is faulty, and needs to be replaced.

Wi-Fi symbol does not appear and web-based applications will not load.

The Kindle cannot connect to wi-fi if you don't let it! Verify that the Kindle's wireless connection setting is enabled.

If you still cannot connect to Wifi, you may be experiencing problems with your router and/or modem. First turn off the Kindle, then turn off your router and/or modem. After 30 seconds, turn your router and/or modem back on, and attempt to connect through your Kindle. If you still cannot connect, there may be issues with your service provider.

Black lines appear across the screen.

Your Kindle may be affected by stronger nearby devices, such as a computer or a printer. Move away from these devices and reboot your Kindle by holding the power button for 30 seconds.

If the lines remain after moving away from interfering devices, it is likely that the screen is faulty and needs to be replaced.

You cannot remember your Kindle Passcode.

Note: All content will be deleted from your Kindle through this process, but can be retrieved from your Amazon account.

If you have forgotten your Kindle Passcode then you must reset your Kindle to its factory settings. This can be done by entering the 9-digit code "111222777" in the passcode field.

I just bought one of these it was only used once and put in the cupboard now when you charge it up it will all function but only when plugged into the mains as soon as you unplug from the mains nothing will work, it's just on a frozen screen! I thought it was battery issues but that's fine it just won't work unplugged!

Any ideas please ? I have factory reset this a few times and still the same!

I am exact similar issues with Gary.

Another thing I noticed is that the LED (Amber when charging / Green when fully charged) at the bottom of the Kindle (next to the Power button), does not light up when pressing the Power button when unplugged from power source (it is supposed to light up Green).

Anyone with any ideas what is the problem / how to fix this? Model#: WP63GW.

I continue to get “Authentication Problem” when entering password in order to connect to wifi. I know the password that I used but it will not accept it. I did enter the 111222777 factory code but it also fails?
