If you see messages such as "No bootable device", "Hard drive not detected", or the system drops to BIOS/UEFI without listing a storage device, when you power on the laptop, this page may have some solutions to your problem.
Loose or Disconnected Hard Drive
The SATA connector or drive bracket can come loose after drops, bumps, or during previous service. A loose connection prevents the BIOS from recognizing the driver. You can check the connection using the Lenovo ThinkPad L460 Hard Drive Replacement guide.
Incorrect BIOS/UEFI settings
SATA mode changes or disabled ports can hide drives from the OS. An accidental BIOS reset can also revert settings. Detailed information and a possible solution can be found on the Lenovo ThinkPad L460 support page.
Damaged or Failed Hard Drive
Mechanical drives can fail (no spin, clicking sounds) and SSDs can fail electronically. If the drive is dead it won't be detected by BIOS. Follow this guide to replace the hard drive in your Lenovo ThinkPad L460.
