Lenovo ThinkPad T460p Does Not Turn On
The laptop screen remains black when the power button is depressed.
Dead battery
The battery may simply be uncharged if the computer does not boot; to verify, use a functional AC adapter (verify with multimeter if uncertain of functionality) and see if the computer powers on when connected to the power adapter. If the computer cannot remain powered on when unplugged from the AC adapter, the battery has likely failed. See our repair guide here.
Screen Cable Disconnected
From frequent closing an opening, the screen cable can become dislodged or damaged as it is bent during opening and closing. If the power indicators illuminate when attempting to power on the computer (exterior logo and power button light) and the screen remains black, or if this is an intermittent issue, this is a highly probable cause that can be remedied by reseating or replacing the eDP cable. To gain complete access to it, remove the screen bezel and the plastic encasing the bottom of the computer.
Motherboard Failure
If the computer shows no signs of life when certainly supplied power, the motherboard may have failed. If the power indicators and screen fail to illuminate, this is highly likely. The cost to replace the motherboard may exceed the cost of a comparable new computer, but it can be achieved by removing the lower plastic casing and removing the board hardware and attached cables.
