Very slow or unresponsive device
Device can be unresponsive at times or glitches after a query.
Too many start-up apps
If you are having this issue, there could be a chance that as you're booting up your hardware, a number of programs are attempting to start up alongside your operating system(Windows, etc.). You can change this by going into your settings, going to the app settings, and looking for the startup section. In there, you will find all the apps trying to startup while your computer is booting up. Just turn off whatever you don't need and you should see improvement. Any other issues might be related to your hardware as it tends to get slower with time.
Device is frozen
If your computer is stuck on the loading screen, there are two methods to help fix the issue. One of them is to forcibly turn the computer off and then on. If you're still having the issue, force restart it once more to get the window troubleshooting options and click it to go into advances settings. There you can do a system restore that should fix your issue. Some people believe that when your device freezes, plugging it in to charge can unfreeze the device. This is an easy solution you can try however, many people doubt this method
Insufficient computer hardware
Buffering often comes from having an unstable internet connection, too many windows or applications running simultaneously, or background tasks that slow the computer down. In order to fix this issue, just take note of closing applications not in use and limiting background applications currently running. You can also use an ethernet cable to connect your laptop directly to the internet if able to. This will create a stronger and faster connection to your Wi-Fi. Another common issue is that your device is running out of memory, causing it to lag. In order to counter this, you are encouraged to defrag your computer. Just go to your search bar and search "defrag" and click on the first option. This will open up a separate tab where you can select which drives you would like to defrag and optimize them. Lastly, your RAM plays an important role in how your computer runs, so just making sure to reboot your computer once it's getting full is a good way to keep your RAM freed up
Computer is overheating
ThinkPad fans are loud but the device is not cooling down or overheating.
Overused computer
One of the few causes for a computer overheating are; too many programs are active at the same time working in the background, and using an outdated software which could potentially slow down your computer even more. Using programs that consume more CPU capacity than what your CPU can handle. When you have a low end device, you can defrag the hard drive which can help with the performance and therefore reduce overheating.
Dust build up in fans
The most common issue that may occur is when dust accumulates inside the vents/fans, it is important to clean out the dust/dirt that may be within the fans, so be sure to clean out the dust inside your computer from time to time. Cleaning out the dust from the vents reduces the chances of your computer running into more issues in the future.
Damaged fans
If the fans in your computer aren't efficient in preventing overheating, the few problems are most likely; damaged fans, blockage of vents, and leaving laptops exposed to heat/sunlight. If this is the case, there is not much that can be done in fixing it other than replacing the fan. You can find a guide to replacing the fans here.(We will insert link after Milestone 3).
Battery life does not last
Battery dies too quickly; does not charge when plugged in.
Old or overused battery
The battery percentage may change because of how your computer is being utilized. When you're running multiple applications or background apps, it takes a toll on the battery and may cause it to decrease at a more rapid rate. Simply closing and turning off some apps will help the battery by reducing the number of apps running. However, some batteries are damaged due to age, usage or both and will need to be manually replaced. You can follow our step-by-step guide on replacing the battery
Damaged battery and bad charging port
If a laptop shuts down faster than usual, it means that the battery is dead and needs to be replaced. This happens when you leave the brightness too high and for too long, also having different types of programs on and running in the background. This would drain your computer power even faster. If this keeps happening it might be time to think about changing out the battery or really looking into getting help on configuring this problem. If the battery does not charge, the battery port could be at fault. You can replace the port, but if that does not work, the battery needs to be replaced.
Display not turning on/damaged display
Display is damaged, not turning on, or changing color.
Display has been left on for too long on high brightness
Another common issue from the overuse of monitors especially at high brightness is the formation of burn marks. Burn marks are very similar to dead pixels yet different. You can change computer setting to shut off the display after being idle for some time. Discoloration is a noticeable change in color or ghosting in places on the monitor or the whole monitor. Discoloration can be permanent damage to the screen and the only way to recover it is to replace the monitor. However, sometimes the pixels can be reset. One way to do this is to turn the device off for a while, then turn it on and keep a white wallpaper for a while until the pixels have reset.
The display has dead pixels
When a display is used for very long periods of time, it can take a toll on pixels to the point that the pixels shut off and stop working. Applying gentle pressure with a soft cloth or finger can sometimes unstick a pixel, however, this may not work. There are not a lot of solutions to this problems unfortunately so if that is the case, you might need to replace the screen.
Loose display connector
A laptop is a portable device meaning that there are a lot of connections made compact to fit in there. The monitor is connected to the motherboard with a ribbon cable. Sometimes, these connections can come loose or the wires can be damaged. When it comes to the laptop, the connection from the monitor to the motherboard can be broken. The solution for this issue would require to open the laptop so there is no quick fix unfortunately, but you can avoid having to replace the whole screen by replacing the ribbon cable. If this does not solve the problem, then the screen has to be replaced.
