If your Logitech M185 Wireless Mouse scroll wheel does not respond with any movement or is responding erratically, follow this troubleshooting page for some solutions.
The Mouse Is Dirty
Dirt, debris, and dust can accumulate inside your mouse over time as it comes into contact with your hand or other surfaces. Before cleaning your mouse, make sure it is switched off or disconnected from any devices. DO NOT use bleach, acetone/nail polish remover, strong solvents, or abrasives!
- Use a dust blower (or your mouth) to disrupt any particles stuck inside.
- Blow in the crevices found on the side of the scroll wheel.
- Use a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol to clean the scroll wheel.
- Make sure the device is dry before turning it on and using it again.
Ensure the mouse is cleaned occasionally so the build-up does not occur again.
Low Battery
Low or dead batteries may often affect mouse movement, especially over long periods, because they can degrade. Ensure the issue does not lie in a dead battery by changing them.
- Turn off and disconnect the mouse so you can open the bottom of the mouse and slide out the covering to access the battery container.
- Take out the batteries.
- Put in the new AA batteries and slide the covering back on.
Driver is Out of Date
Updating or disabling certain settings may help this issue.
- Disconnect or reconnect the hardware for your mouse
- Check your Logitech settings
- Set the Power setting to always on (if there is one)
- Disable smooth scrolling
- Open Logitech Options
- Find the Point & Scroll tab and click on it
- Find the Smooth scrolling option in the left pane and click the drop-down menu.
- Select the Disabled option (Changes are automatically saved)
- Uninstall Logitech software
- Upgrade the firmware on your device if available
- Check for any updates running in the background that may cause delays.
- Check for any updates for the mouse.
Weak Signal
A bad wireless connection between the receiver and mouse can happen, which may cause the mouse to act faulty.
- Unplug and replug in your receiver of the mouse.
- Try this method on another computer to isolate the issue to your computer or mouse.
- Identify if the mouse has a sun logo with an orange background, signifying it as having a Unifying Receiver.
- if this case is correct, unpair the mouse from the Unifying receiver
- Open Unifying Software
- Start > All Programs > Logitech > Unifying > Logitech Unifying Software
- Click Advanced in the Welcome Window
- Select the device, in this case, the Mouse 185.
- Click Un-pair on the right side window.
- Your mouse is now removed from the list, and you must re-pair it with the receiver.
- Open Unifying Software
- If this case is incorrect, the device can't be unpaired unless the device already has a replacement receiver, which means the Connection Ulitilty software must be used to perform the pairing.
- If the unifying software has not already been installed, it can be installed in Logitech's Software Downloads.
- if this case is correct, unpair the mouse from the Unifying receiver
- Verify the mouse is connected to the computer; other devices, such as a switch, extender, etc, may interfere with the signal traveling to the device.
- Keep the device close to the receiver; try to relocate to a port closest to the most used area.
