If your Logitech M185 Wireless Mouse doesn't work after you've switched it on, follow this troubleshooting guide for help.
Before you start troubleshooting the Logitech M185 Wireless Mouse issue, make sure that your mouse is switched to "Off" mode. This minimizes the chance of any unintentional damage being done to your device.
Batteries Are Not Properly Inserted
A common but simple mistake is when the batteries are misplaced or not properly inserted. Check the batteries to see if they are in the proper position. The flat side or the negative end of the battery should be facing the spring inside the mouse. Likewise, the bumpy side or the positive end of the battery should be facing toward a flat interior.
Dongle Isn't Plugged In Properly
If the receiver isn't plugged into the other device all the way, your mouse and the device will not be able to communicate and the mouse won't work. To make sure that it is working, slowly wiggle the receiver. If you find that it easily moves out of place, then it hasn't been placed properly.
Batteries Are Dead
Another common issue with batteries is when the owner(s) are unaware of whether or not the battery they're using is dead. To determine whether or not your battery is dead, conduct a fall test. A fall test is simple to conduct and can help diagnose a dead battery. However, you will need a spare battery, preferably one that's brand new. You're going to want to drop both of the batteries on their end. The brand new battery shouldn't bounce, while a potentially dead battery should.
Defective or Damaged Wireless Dongle
Try plugging in your receiver to another device. If your mouse still doesn't work, then your receiver may be broken or defective and you will need to replace it. Any issues with the dongle directly affect the functionality of the mouse.
Motherboard Failure
If you've tried everything else, it may be that the main board is defective. The main circuit board is essential to a functioning mouse and if it is damaged or defective it needs to be replaced. Use this motherboard replacement guide.
