Replace Battery
May need to buy a completely new battery.
For the guide to remove the battery, refer to Nikon Coolpix S220 Battery and Memory Card Replacement
Blank Monitor
Make sure camera is charged, turned on, and not connected to a computer or t.v.
It is possible that it appears nothing is happening because the monitor is bad. In this case the display is faulty and must be replaced. See Nikon Coolpix S220 LCD Replacement for instructions to do so.
Blurry Pictures
Flash
Make sure flash is on in a dark setting. Can also try using a tripod to ensure stability.
No Flash
Flash Setting
Confirm this setting is turned on.
Modes
Some modes do not require a flash such as Flower, Video, or Landscape.
If flash is still not working may need to refer to a repair guide on how to replace the flash lens.
Cannot Play Files on Camera
The file that holds the images and videos may have been overwritten by a computer when plugging in device. You must undo this so the camera is able to read the images and display them as desired.
Trouble Zooming
Optical Zoom
If camera is in Video Mode the optical zoom will not work.
Digital Zoom
Confirm setting is set to ON. If still not working it may be due to the type of mode the picture is in.
For Example:
- Multi-Shot
- Smile Mode
- Video
- Protrait
- Night Portrait
Non of the above allow the Digital Zoom
Playback Zoom
If picture is cropped below 320x240 zoom is no longer allowed.
Lens may need to be replaced, refer to Nikon Coolpix S220 Lens Replacement
Date/Time Errors
Check Setting
Often times the clock will be slightly off as the battery runs low, to fix just check the clock on the camera to a reliable source and reset as necessary.
Recording Time
If the clock is not set when recording takes place, the date will be displayed as "00/00/0000 00:00". To change, simply go to the Setup Menu - DATE and enter the correct information.
Display on Pictures
Date and Time does not appear on the following settings:
- Panorama Assist
- Museum
- Sports
- Movies
Noisy/Static Filled Picture
Noise in an image is usually caused by the flash reflecting of particles in the air or when a picture is underexposed/Overexposed.
Noise
Solutions:
- Select noise reducing mode
- Use flash/Turn of flash
- Specify low ISO sensitivity setting
Underexposure
Solutions
- Move closer to subject because it was originally out of flash range
- Confirm that the flash window is not covered or blocked
- Select Backlight Scene Mode
Overexposure
Solutions
- Turn off flash
- Adjust exposure settings
Static may also be caused by a dirty lens, in this case you most access the lens and have it cleaned. Refer to the repair guide, Nikon Coolpix S220 Lens Replacement
Pictures Won't Display on Television
Must choose Video Mode or the pictures will not be displayed.
If pictures are in the internal memory (not on memory card) then remove the memory card and the t.v. should be able to display pictures
Non of the Above
If non of the above problems match the one you are looking for please refer to the Nikon Coolpix S220 manual. Available online or with purchase of camera
