Removing a stuck seat post from your bicycle frame can be one of the most sticky situations. Want solutions? You've come to the right place.

Read on for common causes and solutions to get your bicycle seat unstuck.

Corroded Frame

You can begin by removing the seat post clamp bolt or whatever is retaining your seat post ensure that it is indeed stuck before following the steps below.

For a steel frame with a steel seat post: you have general corrosion you can begin by soaking it with a penetrating oil such as PB blaster. This will hopefully breakdown rust formed between the two metals and allow you to remove the seat post.

  • If this does not work, remove the bottom bracket and apply penetrating oil from the other side of the seat post that is inside the frame.
  • If this does not work, put the seat post in a vise and use the frame as a lever to hopefully break it loose.
  • If this does not work, change the temperature you can heat up the frame with a heat gun. Be careful to avoid damaging the paint spray. If you use cold spray, the seat post will hopefully cause the seat post to shrink and the frame to expand resulting in a freed seat post.

For Aluminum Frame and Aluminum Seat Post would be crevice or general corrosion and is rarer than steel corrosion but would require you to follow the steps above.

For Aluminum and Steel to Carbon interactions you have something called galvanic corrosion which is unfortunate. They manufacture a specific spray for this which is a penetrating oil and a solvent. This spray is intended for Carbon to Carbon stuck components but will work with both.
