What screwdriver do I need to open my Xbox One?
Microsoft uses standard torx screws to secure the case and components of the Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X:
- The Xbox One requires a Torx (T8 or T9) or a Torx Security (TR8 or TR9) screwdriver and a T10 or TR10 to remove the screws that secure the components in the console.
- The Xbox One S requires a T8 or TR8 and T10 or TR10 to remove the components from the metal interior casing.
- The Xbox One X requires a T10 or TR10 to remove the screws securing the back of the case and other components to the metal interior case. A T8 or TR8 is needed to remove the screws holding the front circuit board to the upper metal case.
Standard Torx vs. Security Torx
The screws that hold together the Xbox One consoles are standard Torx screws. Security Torx screws, found in Xbox controllers and PlayStation consoles, have a "dot" in the middle which prevent standard Torx screwdrivers from fitting. If you plan on opening an Xbox controller you'll want a Torx Security screwdriver on hand.

Follow iFixit's screwdriver best practices to ensure an optimal fit when removing screws. In general, use the largest driver size that fits snugly into the screw to avoid stripping the screw.

A spudger is suitable for disconnecting cables, connectors, and prying case clips throughout the console.
