Razer Blade RZ09-0102: Subject: Battery Issue - Razer Blade 2014 (RZ09-0102) - Need Diagnosis

Hello iFixit Support Team,

I recently purchased a replacement battery (Betty, RZ09-0102) from iFixit for my Razer Blade 2014 laptop (model RZ09-0102).

After carefully following the iFixit installation guide, I am experiencing the following issues:

- The first time I used the laptop unplugged after installation, it lasted approximately 1 hour before shutting down. Since then, the battery only lasts approximately 5 minutes before the laptop shuts down abruptly.

- upower on Linux Mint reports 0 Wh and 0% at all times, even after several hours of charging

- The charge_now value in /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/ always returns 0

- The laptop works fine when plugged into AC power

I have already tried the following troubleshooting steps:

- Reconnecting the battery connector multiple times

- Performing full charge/discharge cycles

- Updating upower

- Multiple reboots

I am not sure whether the battery is defective or if there is a compatibility issue with Linux Mint. Could you please help me diagnose the issue and advise on next steps?

I also ran i2cdetect -y 0 on the SMBus I801 adapter and got no response from the battery BMS — the grid shows only dashes, confirming the BMS is completely silent on the SMBus.

Thank you for your help.

Best regards

Blade 15 Advanced Model (Early 2020) - RZ09-033: Replaced Battery, Now the battery keeps getting stuck at a limit

So about a month ago, I replaced the battery using the kit from ifixit. 2-3 days ago, the battery got 'stuck' and wouldn't charge past a point, but it would continue to lose battery even when doing nothing, and then the point it would not charge past would continue to decrease. I then updated Windows, deleted the battery driver to restore it, and did a ec reset thing where I shut my laptop down, unplugged everything, and held the power button for 30 seconds. Then, when it booted back up, and I started browsing the internet, the battery spontaneously showed 100% from the 30ish that it was. I did a battery report at the time, and it showed a storage capacity greater than the design capacity.

The next day, the same thing happened, where it stopped going up, but this time I just did the EC reset, and it lowered the charge by 10%, but allowed it to charge like normal.

Now, today, the same thing has happened when it got stuck and won't charge past 57%, but this time, the EC reset has not done anything, and restoring the drivers hasn't either. I have charged it for a while, then let it completely die, and then charged it back up for 2 hours to try to calibrate the battery, but that has not worked. Additionally, I performed another battery report, but this time the storage capacity is showing only 10% of the design capacity.

I have taken the laptop apart, and the connector seems to be seated correctly, and the battery is not swelling. As I am writing this, it seems to have fixed itself and is charging, but it is quite slow. But running another battery report, the capacity remains at exactly 10%.

I have no clue how to even approach this, as I have tried everything.
Any suggestions would be great

Razer Blade 15” Studio Edition (2020): Help Removing Swelled Battery (glued?)

I'm in the process of removing the battery from my Razor laptop as it has swelled up quite significantly. In doing so, pretty much every guide and video I found states that after removing all the screws surrounding the battery, then the battery should pop out easily, however I'm finding that this is not the case for my model. I have removed the five screws in the locations circled in the below picture, yet the battery does not lift out and feels as if it is glued to the laptop frame.

Additionally, I am having trouble discerning where this battery connects to the motherboard, as there seems to be no connection visibly streaming from the battery which connects it to the rest of the laptop.

In scouring the internet, the only lead I have found comes from a comment on this thread, which mentions a comment that user had read elsewhere on YouTube which states: "There is a pull tab to the left edge of the battery. It looks like part of the frame but if you can lift it, just pull it straight out - it will come out as one piece."

When I examine the laptop battery inside the chassis, I do see a tab which I am able to lift up slightly on the left side of the battery (pictured below). However, I do feel a little bit nervous about pulling on something next to this giant pillow based off a third-hand account. Does anyone with experience replacing batteries know that this is the correct solution?

Razer Blade 15” Studio Edition (2020): Advice on how to replace thermal paste on CPU

Hi, my Razer Blade 15" Studio laptop has been running hotter and hotter as of late. I was able to open the back and extract quite a bit of dust from the bottom fans, which helped my issue somewhat, but not nearly as much as I would have hoped.

Since I've been using if for over 3 years now, I figure it would be wise to try applying new thermal paste to the CPU (I'm not sure if the discrete graphics card inside would also have thermal paste to replace, but if so then I'd guess it would be useful to replace that as well).

I have some experience following pre-existing iFixit guides, but certainly wouldn't know where to start on this task given that I can't find any information online about how the internals of this machine are laid out. If it would be useful, I can supply a picture of the inside after removing the back panel.

--------------------------

EDIT: Picture inside machine. Locations where 5 screws around the battery were removed are circled in red

Razer Blade 15 2019: "No Battery Present" after swapping out, but runs unplugged

Hi there! Hope the title says it all. My Razer Blade 15 (2019)'s battery was spicy pillow swelling, so I bought iFixIt's replacement. I swapped it out (thanks, guide!). I turned it on, and the laptop runs without being plugged in! Yay. However, the OS does not seem to detect there being a battery. The battery pane shows "No battery present" instead of my charge, etc.

I restarted, plugged in and unplugged, opened it back up and made sure everything was secure. It seemed to be. I restarted again, etc. I've checked Device Manager and tried to update the drivers -- everything's up to date. Scanned for new devices -- nothing. Clearly the battery is delivering power, and I took my time browsing the internet, taking screenshots, etc.

Any ideas what's up? Could the battery have a bad controller of some kind?

Razer Laptop: razer blade 14 (2022) Lights turn on but laptop doesn't post/boot

My 2022 Razer Blade 14's battery started expanding, so I removed it. The laptop still works on the power brick, but sometimes, when trying to turn it on, it will not post or boot. The green LED on the front and the Razer Logo fade on and off, and the keyboard RGB comes on, but the screen never lights up or displays anything, even after leaving it for over 15+ minutes. Sometimes I can get it to boot up again after trying random things such as disconnecting CMOS battery and holding the power button for 30+ seconds, holding the power button while it's on but not booting, and every other method I've found online.
