iPhone SE: iPhone SE touchscreen unresponsive, white stripe on right side

A friend’s kid dropped her IPhone SE and now the touch screen doesn’t work. There is one solid white bar down the right side of the screen. No sign of actual damage, other buttons work fine.

I cracked it open and it did look like the digitizer connection was loose, as was the rear camera (the rubber bracket wasn’t connected). No apparent damage though. Reconnected everything properly, put it all back together and no change.

Any chance there is something else to check that could be loose? I don’t want to replace the screen unless I absolutely have to.

iPhone SE: iPhone SE Random powering off and possible shorting?

So I recently transferred the hardware of a scuffed up but fully functional 16GB Rose Gold iPhone SE into a new Silver shell an also installed a new screen and battery. The expectation was that after this refurb the phone would function like new, but sadly not. This phone was fully functional before the shell transfer so this one’s on me. :(

Upon testing the phone after the repair, I often encountered an issue where the phone would suddenly shut off 3-5 minutes from booting up. This is probably a kernel panic and that a quick backup and restore should fix the issue but after attempting this 4 or so times the issue persists.

Not only that, after switching off and attempting to reboot, the phone struggles to get past the Apple logo, which will stick there for a considerable amount of time considering it’s fresh iOS boot. However, the phone rarely gets past the boot sequence after this, and instead switches off repeatedly. When the screen shuts off it doesn’t shut off in the normal fashion, but in a strange blotchy effect that looks well… unhealthy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-81GECX... (Video of the issue)

During troubleshooting I noticed that my replacement battery cable that connects to the logic board had been scuffed up a bit and the copper coating was showing. This cable was pressing slightly against the logic board and the shell and I thought that that was the issue and there was a shorting issue. However, upon covering up that scuff with some electrical tape and also the shell where the cable was touching the issue still persists.

If anyone has any advice, fixes or ideas about what the issue may be please respond asap and run me through what to do if possible. I’ve repaired several iPhones but this is my first shell transfer and all other things work well as far as I can tell.

Thanks,

Will

I have iPhone SE that I bought 2nd handed.

Each time the battery charged beyond 70%, the touch is a lil bit crazy, it will jump a lil. So I brought it to repair shop because I came pretty late, so they cannot fully diagnosed the problem.

But for sure they tried to use a tool that read the ampere. They said it normal phone should charge around 0.90A while mine is around 0.70A… So they came with 3 temporer diagnostic,

iPhone SE: Top part of my touchscreen not working since dropping it in a toilet.

A few months ago, I dropped my iPhone in the toilet. It was still powered on when I took it out and there was a red line through the screen. I turned it off within minutes of getting it out of the toilet bowl and then put it in rice for the night to dry it out.

The next day when I took it out, it seemed to be working totally fine but I realized the top left and right corners of the touchscreen no longer work. I'm assuming this is due to some sort of water damage?

I've been living with it up until now and just not using any functionality that involves me selecting something in a top corner (which is relatively avoidable but a lot of apps use these corners for "post" buttons so it's getting frustrating). Everything else about the phone works just as it should.

Any ideas what could be wrong/how to fix it? Is this something I can get fixed in an apple store without spending a ton of money or am I out of luck?

iPhone SE: Recovering Data from Water Damaged iPhone SE

Several weeks ago, I accidentally put my iPhone SE in the washing machine. It sat in rice for two weeks, and then I opened the phone, checked for obvious corrosion, and replaced the battery. I had read on several articles that the battery is usually the biggest problem that occurs in water damaged iPhones, hence the replacement. I let it charge for several hours and then plugged it into my Mac via USB. Unfortunately the screen is still black and nothing appears to be turning on, but I optimistically plugged it in anyways. At first, my laptop nor iTunes even recognized that I had connected a device. I put my phone into Recovery mode and then iTunes recognized it but my laptop was still unaware that I had connected anything. The only options iTunes will give me is to restore the iPhone to its factory settings. Unfortunately, this means all of the data on the phone will be erased. I have looked at several programs that claim to be able to repair my system enough to enable me to recover my data, but they are all quite pricey and a bit shady on their refund policy (if it doesn't work, I will want my money back). I am not looking to be able to use the phone again- I am aware that it is toast in that department. However, I had not backed my phone up since July, which means I have hundreds of pictures and videos that I really don't want to lose. Has anyone used any of these online programs before (dr.fone, etc.)? Can anyone help me get my pictures and videos off the phone? Or does anyone have any tips or people I could go to about this? (Also I feel it’s important to note that I can get my phone in and out of recovery mode, so it isn’t stuck on that loop.)

I have replaced the battery in my iPhone SE with two new batteries, both unable to work out how much charge there is (sometimes stays at 1% and changes when I plug/unplug the charger) The first battery I used made the phone restart (even while charging) every 3 mins or so, the battery I’m currently using is staying around 58% and is telling me to service in battery health. Both batteries were from eBay and I’ve tried basic troubleshooting like a software reset, updates and checking that the connectors are pressed in properly.

iPhone SE: Teared screen cable, does the rumble motor work without a display?

The title is a bit open ended. I attempted to open my iPhone SE and to my rotten luck my hand slipped and the display turned black. At first sight everything seemed mostly fine, the metal shield atop of the touch id connector snapped open but the cable itself didn’t tear, just released / got disconnected. I toggled the ringer mode to silent and back a few times. and the rumble motor brought a smile to my face as the phone was still alive. Yes, I started the disassembly with the phone still on. I fumbled with the phone a bit, disconnect the display assembly only to realize that I probably goofed again because I hadn’t unplugged the battery from the mainboard. I have to admit I’m a bit hazy on the exact ordering of the ribbons connected and disconnected. But while visually inspecting and trying to figure out if the display assembly is truly bonkered and how to proceed, I realized that I probably messed things up further because when I connected the three display cables and battery, the phones motor would no longer offer any feedback. My check consisted of plugging in the phone to a pc, pressing the power button, waiting 15-30sec, and toggling the toggle.

I disassembled the display assembly. It looks like the middle ribbon has a clean tear. So clean, in fact, that you could think you can just plug it back in (sadly that doesn’t work).

So before I resume my gun-ho adventure and order an lcd from ali express, I wanted to ask whether no rumble motor with or without a plugging battery and a plugged in power cable is a sign of more serious damage than just a torn display cable. And if so, what would be the next steps to diagnose.

Thanks for the tips. Hope to learn something from my stupidity.

After a few minutes, the screen flickers and then it applies color filter I use and text is clear. I’m guessing it’s the display, but just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and what they found that worked.
