Thanks. I realized the problem was actually the size of the battery that was preventing me from closing the phone correctly. The back case has connections, so it needs to be perfectly fit. I ended up trying a different position which made the other side of the phone pop out, and the Wi-Fi was working again. BUT the screen was going haywire, turning on and off constantly because of the improper connection created by the bulge, with the battery “cage” being unable to fit into its correct position.
